Heidi’s birthday is nearly upon us, and as she was thoroughly spoilt at Christmas, we’ve decided to makeover her bedroom instead of buying a ton of new toys. Although I’m still yet to pick out the perfect wallpaper, I have been hard at work sourcing appropriately girly bits and bobs to act as finishing touches when her walls are sorted.
It’s no secret here that Heidi is unicorn and pony OBSESSED. I’ve watched this develop over the last two years, and am now positive this interest is likely to linger for quite some time. I’m not quite sure how this craze came about, but it seems Heidi isn’t alone. You cannot walk into a department store now without seeing an onslaught of unicorn-inspired decor, clothing and more. Better still, as this craze is not affiliated to any specific tv show or film, you can pick up some really lovely bits for less.

Not wanting to wait until Heidi’s actual birthday to show these off, I’ve whipped them out of their boxes to stage them in her room whilst she’s at school.
This beautiful unicorn money box is one of my favourite things I’ve sourced for her room. It’s shimmery rainbow paint catches the light beautifully as it streams through her windows, and it’s much bigger than the tatty teddy bear one she had before.
Money boxes are something we’ve encouraged from aged 2 onwards; helping our children to appreciate the value of money, encouraging them to save, and a way for us to reward the children for good behaviour. This beautiful keepsake from the Sass & Belle Collection at The Gift Experience will make the act of saving money even more special, and I already know Heidi will treasure her. At £14.99 she’s worth every penny.
I also chose a personalised framed unicorn print that I absolutely adore. As Heidi is getting older now (she’s going to be 5 - when on Earth did that happen??) she’s started to follow in my footsteps in terms of interior design. She absolutely loves accompanying me on shopping trips and is forever peering over my shoulder when I’m putting together moodboards or browsing Pinterest. She’s already found the mirror she wants for her bedroom wall - all by herself whilst flicking through a catalogue. That’s my girl!
As a result, I know Heidi will love this print. I have a very similar (although more grown up version) in my bedroom, with an inspirational quote from my favourite actress. She’s forever picking it up and asking me to read it to her - and now she’ll have one of her very own!
The print is very professionally done, and even personalised with her name. The frame is really sturdy and it looks much more expensive than it’s £29.99 price tag. It’s also perfectly sized so as to create a statement without the need to faff around fixing anything to her wall.
Finally, I plumped for this stunning Tinker Bell Glitter Lamp. Okay, okay, I know this isn’t a unicorn gift, but can you blame me??? It was simply too adorable to pass up. In fact, it’s so beautiful I am totally jealous it will end up in her room.
The main body of the lamp is a rose gold/copper colour that is bang on trend at the moment. Official Disney merch, it has a very subtle Tinker Bell image and the quote “She leaves a little sparkle wherever she goes” - quite like Heidi I like to think.
When turned on, the subtle light catches the floating glitter & literally dances around the room. It’s a truly magical effect and creates a relaxing ambience to read or simply doze off to. I cannot wait to show Heidi this, and I know she will love it for years to come (I want one, and I’m 36!).
It’s solid and well built, and (although I’ll be positioning it out of reach) I’m comfortable it’s safe for her. Setting it up was as easy as pulling it from the box and popping it together, literally a 10 second job. It’s also mains powered so you don’t have to faff around with batteries. At £35.99, it’s quite reasonable for a officially licensed Disney product, and quite frankly, I’d pay double this given how enticing her room looks when it’s switched on.
