What to do in Liverpool #LiverpoolGuide2019

Posted on

I love Liverpool. My brother moved there some 4 years ago, so any trip there has the kids excited, even if just to see their favourite uncle. Yet every time we go there, there’s plenty more to do than simply visiting family. It has a special buzz about it; a city steeped in both popular and historical culture, with a vast array of fabulous places to eat and drink.

Many of Liverpool’s attractions are no secret, with the famous Beatles Tour, Anfield Stadium, and frequent cruises along the River Mersey. Yet with many other big events planned, 2019 is set to be a big year for Liverpool. Whether you’re into comedy, music, theatre or are looking for something special for the whole family, there’s plenty to do and see.

Liverpool ONE have put together this handy guide of some of 2019′s biggest events, and it’s definitely worthy of a share or two.

What would I pick?

Well our next scheduled visit just so happens to coincide with some showings of Disney on Ice. Having almost booked this in London a few months back, this looks like the ideal way to reward the kids after the (no doubt tortuous) drive from Reading.

Of course though, part of the beauty of visiting relatives is cheekily having them babysit the children so Craig and I can get out for a few hours on our own (hey, a good sitter is hard to come by when you live in the sticks!). There’s nothing we like better than a day at the races, so the Randox Health Grand National is right up our street. And then there’s Bon Jovi live in concert at the Anfield Stadium, and Mumford & Sons at the M&S Bank Arena… I’m half tempted to say we’ll just take an extended vacation up there and camp out in my brother’s spare room for the summer!

Which Liverpool event would you pick? Do share on social using the hashtag #LiverpoolGuide2019

How to make your home the ultimate Valentine’s Day venue

Posted on

We all love spending time together as a family, but sometimes the adults need a night to themselves. If you are unable to leave your house this Valentines Day then do not fear. There are so many ways that you can make your evening more special without having to leave your home. All it takes is a little thought, some effort and the willingness to have an amazing evening in. Check out our tips below and make your home the best Valentine’s Day venue ever this February!

Try to find a babysitter

First things first, find yourself a babysitter! Finding a babysitter is great because it means that you will have the one-to-one romantic night-in that you have been dreaming of. This sometimes isn’t possible when the kids are around. Make sure that you try to book your babysitter in advance to avoid them being booked up! Unfortunately, no matter how hard you may try, there just isn’t someone to look after the kids, but that’s okay. If you can’t find a babysitter then don’t worry, the kids have to fall asleep eventually!

Cook a gorgeous evening meal

One of the most romantic things in the world is having someone else cook you a meal. The thought and preparation that goes into it makes it really special. Try having one of you cook the main and one of you cook the desert to even out the load. Alternatively you can hire a gourmet chef to cook for you in your home. If there is no way that you can get out to a restaurant this valentine’s day then why not bring the restaurant to you? Oh, how romantic.

Wear something naughty

One of the best ways that you can spice up your Valentine’s night is by putting something a little revealing on. There are a range of products that you can buy that will definitely get him going (and vice versa, gentleman!). Whether you’re looking for a classy camisole, a beautiful baby doll look, or some luxury lingerie, you will be able to find the perfect thing with an Ann Summers promo code. Pair your outfit with some heels and sexy accessories and get your night on the go!

Flowers

Flowers are a traditional and classic way to show someone that you care. Filling your home with flowers to surprise your partner is a great way to make a Valentine’s night in more special than a valentines night out! Stock up on flowers this valentines day and make your home smell, feel and look gorgeous.

Fill your home with candles

Scented candles are the epitome of romance. Pick up some tea lights, candle jars and even fairy lights to give your home that really romantic feel. Low lighting and subtle music are known for helping to boost your relaxation and help both you and your partner to unwind. If you want to do something special for your other half but you are unable to go out, then filling the house with fairy lights, candles or glow in the dark stars is a really great way to boost the romance of the evening. Plus you can get great deals on all sorts of romantic lighting options when you use online discount sites like My Favourite Voucher Codes. So not only will you be hosting the best possible Valentine’s Day yet, but you will also be saving money as well.

Get your favourite drinks in

What is your partners favourite drink? Do they love some scotch on the rocks? Are they a fan of high quality botanical gin and tonic? Do they love a smooth glass of red? Whatever it is, make sure you get it in. Fill your glasses with some of your favourite alcohol to have the most romantic night ever. After all, it’s not as if either of you needs to drive home!

Look through old photos

One of the best ways to ignite a little romance and really make use of your home as a valentines venue is to crack out the old photos. Take a look at all of the pictures that you have together and reminisce on your funny, romantic and happy memories. This is a great way to remind both of you of all of the special times that you have had, and of all the special times that you will have. Now you wouldn’t get that in an over crammed restaurant!

Start writing your bucket list

We all have relationship goals, but it can be difficult to reach them once our daily lives take over. Take the time to sit down together and write down all of the things that you want to do together in the future. Whether you want to plan a Safari, show your spouse where you were born, visit family abroad or get a dog, writing it all down together - and event planning how you will do it - makes all of those dreams so much more realistic. This is a great way to get you and your partner connecting on your Valentine’s night in!

There are so many things that you can do to make your home the best valentines venue of them all. Really, who wants to spend a fortune on eating out when you can transform your home and have the most romantic experience yet! Make sure that you fill your home with candles and flowers, home cook a meal, look through old photos, create a bucket list and wear something a little bit naughty. But most importantly, get yourself a babysitter! May this valentine’s day be your most romantic one yet!

Getting ready for Christmas with The Personalised Gift Shop

Posted on

We’ve very nearly hit December. Towns and villages everywhere have their Christmas lights up, supermarkets & department stores have released tv ads that have been a year in the making, and the kids have already started dropping huge hints about what they’d like from Santa this year. As it’s our first Christmas in a house of our own, we’re pulling out all the stops this year to make it really special for our 4 & 6 year old. After all, they won’t believe in the magic of Christmas forever.

Whether your little ones believe in Father Christmas or not, The Personalised Gift Shop are your one-stop-shop for everything Christmas; selling everything from unique personalised gift ideas, to Santa plates and Christmas Eve boxes. So, whether you’re kicking off brand new traditions this year (like us), or simply carrying on something tried and tested, The Personalised Gift Shop have it covered.

Getting your home Christmas-ready

If you are anything like me, you’ll whip out your Christmas decs every year and say “I must get some new ones for next year”. Yet every year I bring out the same battered baubles and limp tinsel. Yet it’s amazing what a few new key pieces can do to bring that extra bit of sparkle to your festivities. Here are just some of the personalised Christmas offerings from The Personalised Gift Shop this year…

(Featured) Personalised Santa Stocking £14.99 / Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Personalised Pillar Candle £9.99 / Personalised Mince Pie Plate £17.99 / Personalised Photo Bone China Bauble £14.99 / Sleeps Until Christmas Hanging Slate Sign £9.99 / Personalised Merry Christmas Teddy Bear £26.99 / Personalised Christmas Wine £16.99 / Personalised The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year Farmhouse Jug £14.99 / Stag Cheese Board £25.99

Christmas Eve boxes

This year, we’re also kicking off the tradition of Christmas Eve boxes for the kidlets. At some point early evening, they’ll hear a knock at the door, and an elf will have bought them a whole host of goodies to get them in the Christmas spirit.

We were gifted these beautifully handmade Special Delivery Christmas Eve Boxes (£29.99) from the Personalised Gift Shop that are just perfect for the job. Roomy (26cm wide, 15cm tall and 18cm depth) and sturdy enough to last a lifetime of Christmas Eve’s they are adorned with the children’s names and North Pole postmarks aplenty so your child knows immediately where they’ve come from.

I did a quick whip round Pound Stretcher for a few example bits and bobs, but having asked on Facebook, other parents in-the-know have chosen Christmassy DVDs, chocolate gold coins, sachets of hot chocolate, PJs and family games for their children. One canny parent told me the aim is to either to wear them out, or keep them quiet!

If you haven’t the time or inclination to hunt down goodies for your box, The Personalised Gift Shop have come up trumps again. This little haul is bound to get them suitably excited…

(Featured) Puzzle Book - A4 Deluxe Version £19.99 / Personalised Santa’s Magic Key £12.99 / Personalised Christmas Sweetie Jar £14.99 / 20 Personalised Colouring Pencils £7.99 / Santa Letter and Envelope £6.99 / Personalised Christmas Teddy in a tin £19.99 / Personalised Christmas Chocolate Bar - Tree £5.99 / Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Marquee Mug £8.99 / Princess Ultimate Collection - Personalised Disney Story Book £29.99

Welcoming Santa

You might think you’re shattered, but let’s face it, no one has it tougher than Santa on Christmas Eve. When you’re all safely tucked up in bed, he’s whizzing across the globe pulling off the impossible feat of delivering all those presents. His track record is actually pretty amazing, and he hasn’t missed my children yet, but there are plenty of little sweeteners you can leave behind for FC and his posse to ensure he remembers to stop by.

(Clockwise) Treats for Santa Personalised Slate Hanging Sign £9.99 / Personalised Port £29.99 / Personalised Santa’s Glass Milk Bottle £9.99 / Treats for Santa Plate £14.99

The big day!

Now you’ve prepped, it’s time to hand over the reins to the big man himself. Short of hovering over your kids with a bin bag (someone has to tidy up!), dishing out AA batteries like a Duracell rep, and drinking your body weight in red wine - you can finally sit back and admire your handiwork.

We were gifted these gorgeous Personalised Luxury Santa Sacks (to give to Santa, to give to our kids - you understand) and I can’t wait to see them filled with all the bounty the kids will unwrap on Christmas Day. Not only are they HUGE and roomy (80cm x 49cm), they’re also made from soft premium hessian (so have the right amount of stretch for larger pressies). Presents are secured within thanks to a wide red ribbon to minimise the chances of falling out of Santa’s sleigh.

With a classic almost Scandi reindeer design, and wide felt cuff bearing your child’s name in large gold lettering - there can be no mistaking whose sack is whose, and they make such a statement sat beside the fireplace. At just £17.99 each, they can be pulled out year after year to ensure presents make it safely from the North Pole to your home.

With all this and more available at the Personalised Gift Shop, you can help make your family’s Christmas truly special and well… personal. For more inspiration and exclusive competitions, check out them out here:
