REVIEW: Budget Shapewear from Camille

Posted on

I have some of the best weapons available at my disposal for #opbabyweight. I have the Nutribullet (a machine I might actually rush into a burning building to save), Juice Plus+ which has achieved vitamin supremacy owing to the 40+ years of hard science behind it, and gadgets aplenty designed to coax better fitness out of the laziest of people. Yet sometimes it’s the littlest and most inconsequential of things that help you feel a few inches smaller on a night out.

Whether you call them Bridget Jones knickers, tummy control pants, or plain old “shapewear” (why does that always conjure a mental image of silver-haired women browsing in M&S?) - every girl’s panty drawer will have a few buried beneath their racier cousins.

The world’s most unforgiving dress with no panties

Women are sly. Fact. We’re sneaky enough to wriggle our way into the unsexiest of knicks before slipping on our LBDs (barricading the door with our body weight until we’re all strapped in). Funny how we’re quite alright to let our fellas see us before our slap is on and our hair is done, but we’re so secretive about what’s under our bodycons.

We offer men plentiful excuses for not letting them see us get dressed; we don’t want to spoil the after-dinner treat, we need our dresses on before whipping the GHDs so our curls won’t get flattened… but in reality it’s because we know if he sees the scaffolding under the dress, it’ll ruin the sex kitten illusion we’ve spent hours creating.

In short, apple catchers are an essential bit of kit for the modern day woman.

So when UK based lingerie and nightwear specialist Camille got in touch about reviewing for them, I casually skipped over all the pretty nightdresses, practical PJs and cosy-looking robes, and headed straight for the passion killers.

I chose two different styles; Camille’s high waisted slimming briefs and the more conventional control high-waisted briefs. I expected much of a likeness to be honest, on the face of it, all shapewear is designed to do pretty much the same thing. For me, the idea is to smooth out a fold on my tummy that I’ll have you believe has been created by my c-section scar (not too many pies of course).

High-waisted slimming briefs (pair one)

First up we have the high-waisted briefs. This is a faux satin mix of nylon and elastane with no seams or decoration to really smooth out all your bumps. It contours from under bust to under your bottom and is available in an impressive range of sizes from 10-22 (I take a 14 if you must know!).

The panelling is such that it focuses solely on your tummy and skirts over your upper thigh - for a body as lumpy and unhappy as mine, this can result in further bulging under loose-fitting dresses etc.

The world’s most unforgiving dress with pair one

The other thing about these bad boys is that the waistband has no rubber seam to prevent rolling (if you don’t know what I’m talking about, I hate you. You are the sort of woman I fantasize about throttling in my dreams). Funnily enough I haven’t had a bad experience with them not staying put, but something in that waistband is a little itchy.

Style wise these are probably the least ugly tummy control knicks I’ve come across, they’re simple and less “lace curtains” than many others. Yet this really is a case of substance-over-style and the other pair just win out for me. That said, I’d choose these for under jeans and trousers no problem at all.

Control Slimming Briefs (pair two)

The high-waisted control briefs offer a much smoother silhouette than the other pair making them ideal for wearing under clingy dresses. These feature a control panel to flatten out your muffin tops which really is a bonus and streamlines what is a problem area for many of us. A rubber waistband with a generous tummy panel also ensures you can tuck the band neatly under your bra for maximum comfort.

The world’s most unforgiving dress with pair two

Aesthetically they aren’t as pretty but who cares. I tend to shrug them off after a night out and slip into something a little sexier before Craig even notices. Again, they go up to bigger sizes and are available in black or white to suit every outfit.

I’ve worn both sets of knickers for long evenings on the town and haven’t any complaints other than the itchiness of pair one around my midriff. I forget about them when they’re on which suggests they’re doing the job perfectly.

The best bit, they’re £9.99 and £14.99 respectively. I’ve shelled out double that for highstreet pairs so I’d highly recommend both pairs as more reasonably priced alternatives.

I’m currently undertaking the biggest lifestyle change of my life. This is day 1 of a 7 day detox cutting out diary, gluten and excess sugar to set myself up for Juice Plus+ protein shakes in a week’s time. There’s no more excuses now, I simply have to lose 4 stone.

Most women will cite their reasons for shedding a few lbs are to get healthier, or get more energy and mobility for the sake of their children. But for me, I just want to look a whole load sexier for my long-suffering other half in 2015. This will also be the year I go back to university to study, and the first year I have spent in the last three with absolutely no pregnancy hormones. It’s the year to put myself first, and that’s exactly what I intend to do.

I won’t be alone in this challenge. It’s early January so I expect lots of women are looking longingly at the chocolate shelves in their local newsagents and regretting sharing their weight loss resolutions on Facebook.

Well I have something that might just work for you!

You could win pioneering fat freezing treatment by Sculptlite to help you contour your body and regain your waist! As per my previous posts, this isn’t a surgical procedure - there are no knives, nasty synthetic toxins or anaesthetic; it’s a 100% natural way to kill fat cells.

Clients will see an average of 33% reduction of fat in the treated area in just one treatment!

You can read all about the science behind the treatment here, but to cut a long story short, fat is more sensitive to cold than muscles, nerves and skin, and undergoes a cell death process (also known as Apoptosis) when exposed to sub zero temperatures. Lipoglaze® therefore freezes and thins the subcutaneous layer of fat using controlled ICE therapy, without risk to surrounding tissue.

Lipoglaze has been a huge hit with celebrities too! You could join the likes of Binky Felstead, Luisa Zissman, Nicola McLean and Lizzie Cundy!

Sculptlite offer this revolutionary treatment in the comfort of your own home. Owner and Harley Street trained technician, Lisa Owens will come to you and set up a treatment area in your living room. This means you can catch up on Broadchurch whilst she uses her expertise to permanently blast excess fat around your bum, tummy, love handles or bingo wings.

I’m had my own fat freezing treatment 3 weeks ago and have been religiously body-brushing ever since. My lymphatic system is currently doing the business and getting rid of my pesky love handles. I can see a difference already and my flanks look more streamlined as a result! Do bear in mind, it can take up to 12 weeks to see results, but I think this is a good start.

Capture31 My Sculptlite Fat Freezing Treatment

So a few weeks back I told you all I was having fat freezing treatment courtesy of Sculptlite. This is the hottest celebrity body-sculpting trend at the moment and ordinarily takes place in a clinical setting. People literally flock to London and other city locations to have their fat blasted with sub zero temperatures to permanently kill stubborn pockets of fat.

Now however Harley Street-trained clinician Lisa Owens has made the inspired move to offer Lipoglaze® treatment in the comfort of your own home. She travels anywhere within and around the Berkshire and Surrey borders offering the service. Anxious patients, or those keeping their lunchtime-lipo a secret from their partners, can also opt to go to her home.

During Treatment2 My Sculptlite Fat Freezing Treatment

Anyone wanting the treatment will have a consultation with Lisa first (see my previous post for details and the science behind the treatment) and I can testify to how professional and lovely she is. Your personal safety is put before all else and she gets a genuine kick out of helping you achieve the very best results

The Treatment

So last Tuesday was the big day.

Lisa set up the room in a matter of minutes whilst I signed a consent form. It turns out we have loads in common and she’s tried (or has knowledge of) most of the diets I’ve been using over the last few weeks. It was lovely chatting to her and she gave me tons of tips for maximising my weight loss in 2015. She had advised me to save up some TV programmes to watch throughout the treatment (you have to lie still) but we ended up talking throughout the entire session.

First up she took some new measurements and drew on my skin to mark up the treatment areas. We took piccies of this but this is only for the purposes of this blog - being papped in your undies is definitely not a prerequisite! Her measurements determine the calibration of the machine, and the drawings help her identify those fatty areas ripe for treatment.

Before Flanks My Sculptlite Fat Freezing Treatment

Once all the preliminary work was out of the way, Lisa helped me settle onto her treatment bed. She brings along loads of comfy cushions to help you reach a position you’re happy to stay in - it sort of resembles the recovery position with your treatment side in the air (if you’re having your tummy done, you’ll be in a seating position so this is presumably even easier).

She then applied two layers of antifreeze sheets to the treatment areas. This protects your skin and feels (obviously) freezing cold. The machine itself (from what I could see over my shoulder) is a sort of suction cup that sucks your fat in. When this is applied you do feel a great deal of pressure and you will wince, however once the machine has a decent grip on your fat the pressure is released (takes approx 1 min and was the only uncomfortable part of the experience). Lisa took a picture of my fat inside the machine and it looks (to me) like a swollen testicle.

It’s then a waiting game.

I was so comfortable, if Lisa wasn’t so funny, I’d have napped for the duration. Instead I ended up giggling throughout most of it.

During Treatment4 My Sculptlite Fat Freezing Treatment

Each flank, side or love handle takes 45 minutes and the machine will count you down. It’s imperative you don’t move as if you knock the suction cup Lisa can’t re-site it for health & safety reasons.

During TreatmentFinal My Sculptlite Fat Freezing Treatment

After the treatment was finished, Lisa removed the anti-freeze sheets and directed my hand to the site. I could feel my love handles virtually defrosting under my fingers which is a funny sensation. She then rubbed a calendula and aloe vera lotion onto my skin to soothe it. As she’s trained in relaxation and remedial therapy, this was an extra treat.

I was left with minor bruising on both sides which disappeared in a number of days. I can honestly testify this wasn’t at all sore, tender or uncomfortable and I barely noticed it.

Lipoglaze Bruise My Sculptlite Fat Freezing Treatment

It’s now one week after the treatment and I’m yet to see any results. Inside my body, the fat has crystallised and is dead, it’s now up to my lymphatic system to shuttle it around my body and naturally excrete it. This process can take anywhere up to 12 weeks where there’s an average of 33% reduction in fat.

It’s now up to me to start a routine of increased fluid intake (to assist the ‘flushing out’ of the crystallised lipids in the fat cells), light exercise and regular body brushing to stimulate the lymphatic system - Lisa gives all her clients a body brush to get them started. I’ll report back after Christmas with new piccies so you can see how I’m getting on!

In summary, this was a real treat. It’s an odd sensation yet the experience is actually quite relaxing. I could have slept during the treatment as I was so comfortable, and I was left with zero discomfort. I just can’t wait to see if there’s any change to those unsightly bumps!

If you live in Berkshire or Surrey, you’ll want to keep your eyes peeled from more posts from me, as I’ll be hosting a giveaway in the New Year to win some treatment of your own (worth £295!).

In the meantime, head to Sculptlite’s Facebook page for another chance to win! (Ends 24th December 2014). You can also say hello on Twitter!
