Last week I brought you dozens of glamping options to suit the most pampered of princesses, and our little family are all set to sample the outdoor experience in early February. Although we’ve opted to glamp rather than camp, and will all have camp beds decked out in linens and blankets, bedding most certainly isn’t a given if you’ve chosen an alfresco getaway.

Most of us will have sleeping bags from the 70s stashed at the back of a cupboard somewhere, or bags that have gone on one too many night-fishing excursion and need a battery of cleaning products to lift the stench of beer, sweat and damp - if not, you can probably rest assured you can get kitted out with a simple visit to your next door neighbour.

But what about your kids?

More specifically, what about your baby?

Simply bunging a travel bassinet and their body weight in blankets in the boot of your car might seem like a good idea, but is it really enough to keep your little cherub warm enough as you sleep beneath the stars?

Well how about tucking baby into this seriously cute Vango Nitestar Mini baby sleeping bag, made just for them? Get ready to go gooey as this little bag will look just like mummy’s yet shrunk down to pretty miniature proportions.

Available in blue and pink, by opening to just 100×40/60cm it offers you peace of mind that baby will not snuggle down out of sight yet remain protected from the elements. Mummy-style (a.k.a. tomb-like), it’ll also keep arms and legs compact and swaddled to promote prolonged sleep.

A two season bag, this makes them ideal for summer camping, maintaining a comfortable temperature of 6-20degrees - it’s therefore recommended baby will wear her usual sleeping attire within the bag to further keep out the cold.

It arrives, and can be stored in a small compression sack (like many adult bags) and weighs a tiny 900g. Can I get a collective “Aww…”?

  1. Stock up on nature-loving toys such as telescopes, a magnifying glass, fishing rods and binoculars. Many places only hire out adult bikes, so if you’re going to go cycling as a family, take your kids’ bikes, too!

  2. Glamping is great fun with children as they tend to treat it all as a great adventure . I think you will have a lovely time. My little bit of advice would be to take a mini vac with you so that you can clear up crumbs quickly whenever you feel the need to tidy up.

  3. Bring a lightweight, non-breakable mirror to fix yourself up. Be green. Pack out what you brought in with you and reduce the amount of waste you produce as much as possible.

  4. Never been glamping or camping, but I’d say make a “packing list” before you go so you don’t forget anything.

  5. wet wipes! I always save up any samples of things like soap, shampoo, etc for camping, so you can just use and dispose. Packing up to come home always seems to take forever so every little helps!

  6. When my brother and his wife went camping they took some solar powered fairy lights. It provided illumination at night without needing any mains power. I just looked on Amazon and you can get them very cheaply.

  7. Relax, enjoy and take it one day at a time - don’t make too many plans, every day will be an adventure - just remember your brollies and maybe wellies too

  8. I haven’t been glamping as yet. Have a nice time, let us know where you went, what was available :- Adventures, Activities, Entertainment, etc.

  9. My little bit of advice would be to take a few board games along, you never know what the weather is going to be like and nothing worse than bored kids on a rainy day!

  10. use a sandwich bag to take and store your toilet rolls, take face wipes for camp fire, and enjoy, don’t forget torches for toilet runs xxx

  11. I’d say relax and try and make it a really different experience. It’s tempting to take toys and tablets, etc to keep the kids entertained but sometimes playing with leaves and taking a pair of binoculars and bug viewer can be far more fun.

  12. I’ve never been but understand that it’s just like having a hotel room. Maybe you should take some little chocolates to put on your pillows!

  13. Squash is too heavy to carry, but not everyone wants to drink water. Take the new ‘water flavourer’ mini bottles (extremely concentrated). Take up no space/weight at all.

    I recommend the vimto ones.

  14. Take packs of tissues rather than toilet roll - handier to keep in a pocket and won’t get damp overnight. Also a decent lantern that will charge from your 12V car socket.

  15. fab giveaway ! i would take a torch for stories and my guitar to play songs we love camping in are house but havent been for a while maybe this year :)

  16. Take a great book of simple stories that you can read as a family at bedtime. Oh and Horlicks & Ovaltine - can’t go wrong. Have a wonderful time. xxx

  17. Camping’s great fun for children and adults alike, but quite difficult with very young infants. A great idea is to do ‘practice’ runs in your back garden before venturing out and about. You quickly discover what essential items you need to take along with you for enjoying the real deal. x
