Characterful kids clothes from The Enchanted Company

Posted on

Far and away my favourite things to review on this blog, are clothes for my mini mes. Dexter gets very excited every time he pops on a new jacket or shirt, and both he and Heidi love a good photo shoot.

So of course when I was recently contacted by a kiddies clothing and knick knack business, The Enchanted Company, I eagerly grabbed the opportunity. I’m simply blown away by the things Heidi and Dexter received so would definitely recommend checking out their easy-to-navigate and beautifully presented website. My two look absolutely adorable in their new bits and the quality is nothing short of brilliant either.

Who are The Enchanted Company?

Created by husband and wife team, Bernie and Mariessa, The Enchanted Company is a new venture inspired by the arrival of their beautiful daughter Róisín. Bernie and Mariessa have over 10 years experience creating early learning nurseries and actively encouraging preschoolers to use their imagination, create friendships and well… have fun. When Róisín arrived in 2014, the pair realised that she had a natural affinity for soft toys, and witnessed the start of a beautiful friendship between their daughter and Bun Bun, a soft bunny that travels everywhere with her, and this quickly became their inspiration for creating The Enchanted Company.

This made me giggle as Heidi is definitely a soft toy lover too. Every night she’ll line her bed with all her teddies and we can hear her talking to them for at least an hour after the light is out. It brings back memories of my own childhood too. I went so far as to hold regular business meetings with my soft toys - even taking imaginary minutes in a notebook! - it’s exactly this imaginative play that Bernie and Mariessa hope to capture in their new range of fun, practical and characterful range of children’s clothes and knick knacks - things that children are proud to wear and own, and inspire them to have fun and enjoy simply being children.

The Girls Collection

There’s something for every mini fashionista, with pops of vibrant colour and too-cute-for-school characters that little girls will quickly fall in love with. Bun Bun adourns many of the pieces, but also Bertie Blue Tit, Humbellina Bumblebee and other Forest Friends - all of which perfectly encapsulate a child’s love of the outdoors. With strategically placed girly bows, lots of embroidery and textured applique, the collection is instantly recognisable and a great choice for youngsters expressing burgeoning personalities.

I love how Bernie and Mariessa haven’t been afraid to play with colour either. Yes there’s traditional pink, but also bright yellows, navy and greys too. Everything appears to be designed so a child and can mix and match leggings with different tops, tunics and tees to create their own look.

The Boys Collection

I say “boy’s collection” but actually think this is a little unfair to The Enchanted Company, as Heidi would be equally comfortable playing in lots of the boys bits too. In fact, there’s cohesion across the entire collection, opening it up to children of both sexes ages 1.5yrs to 5yrs.

This time, it’s Zed Fox who takes centre stage, with pyjamas, hoody’s, tees and jackets all designed with this cheeky fellow in mind. Like Bun Bun and the other Forest Friend’s, Zed Fox also features on range of coordinating accessories from drinks bottles, to pencil cases, to bookends and more - allowing your child to personalise their bedrooms with their favourite character.

Dexter’s Zed Fox Padded Jacket

DexJump

Get ready to swoon over this jacket. Dexter gets comments ALL the time at nursery and it’s the first jacket he’s owned that he’ll request to wear himself.

Why is it such a hit? First up, the colour is vivacious and really pops making it fun for him to wear (with an added bonus of being easy to spot in crowded places). We love the coordinating sports cuffs and bottom seams too, making it more akin to a American baseball jacket. This, when twinned with the super soft polyester lining, keeps the heat in and is super comfortable for him to run about in. On this note, I’m also really impressed with the sizing (Dex is wearing age 3-4 years) and it perfectly covers his midriff and wrists when he’s jumping (as in the pic above).

For additional detail, we have the Zed motif on his sleeve, an E.F (Enchanted Forest) logo on his right breast, and some star prints on the shoulder. There are also deep pockets for him to stash a tissue, some sweeties and small toys - or indeed snail shells and stones (thanks Dexter!) - and all the zips are nice and chunky and easy for him to move up and down himself.

Get this though… it’s currently reduced to just £17 from an already very resonable £21 (buy yours here: Zed Fox Padded Jacket). I’d pay close to double this as it’s just so beautifully made and really appeals to Dexter. It’s just such a relief I no longer have to wrestle him into a jacket.

Heidi’s Forest Friends Hoody

Heidi

Heidi’s seriously cute Forest Friends Hoody has become an equally appreciated wardrobe staple for our little toyboy. At the age of 22 months, Heidi has just begun experimenting with clothes and is very forthright with us about what she wants to wear, and when. Luckily for us, she’s yet to refuse her hoody.

We put this down to the fact it’s the most colourful hoody she owns and has all her woodland favourites to point out. There are also no irritating seams on the inside of this garment (as there is on some of her other hoodys), and it’s a comfortable mix of polyester and cotton so is nice and elasticated as she runs, jumps and explores.

As you can imagine, with any little lady of Heidi’s age, it’s had a fair share of trips back and forth from the washing machine, yet the colour has stayed bright and vibrant, with no shrinkage or lifting of the print. Once again, zips and chunky for diddy fingers, and the cuffs are robust so have withstood lots of tugging and rough play.

Overall, I’m really impressed that the Enchanted Company have managed to create such a fun and vibrant range at such accessible price points. Heidi’s hoody is just £14, so on a par with that we’d pay from any of our preferred high street brands. It means The Enchanted Company’s clothes and knick knacks shouldn’t simply be regarded as a treat or gift, but parents can shop there all year round - great stuff!

Prettify your nursery with the Childrens Curtain Company

Posted on

My children’s bedrooms look way better than our own. Whilst the only splash of colour in our room comes from our overflowing washing basket, the kids have amazing spaces with coordinated colour schemes and photo-ready features in every nook and cranny. In fact, I love shopping for their rooms. Whether it’s Cath Kidston prints for Heidi, or Fireman Sam anything for Dex, it helps detract from the hoards of toys they’ve managed to accumulate during their short time on the planet.

As I’m hugely supportive of local businesses, shopping for the home is even more special if I find a shop in my neck of the woods. The Childrens Curtain Company are a great example of this. Local to Berkshire, they offer way more than their name suggests. With adorable bedding, storage, lampshades and wallpaper for babies through to teenagers, there’s something to brighten even the smallest box room.

Gathering lots of attention in the press (from En Vogue to Buzz magazine) there’s a fabulous collection of fabrics that will transform boring spaces into super swish children’s rooms. From more traditional ditsy fabric, to modern pop-art, to character prints - the choice is vast.

Clockwise (left to right): Hedgerow pink £25.00 per metre / Safari denim £9.95 per metre / Winnie the Pooh pink £39.00 per metre / Alphabet Beatrix Potter pink £39.00 per metre / Pirates Life for Me £13.50 / Man’s Best Friend cinnamon £13 per metre / Countryside Chambrey £9.95 per metre / Woodland Friends lavender £12.50 / Quentin Blake Alphabet Tales £37 per metre

For curtains & blinds, you measure your windows using their handy video guide then select your fabric. With most styles well under £15 per metre, it’s a far cheaper option than buying ready-made curtains, and means you’ll have no swathes of material hanging where you don’t need it - can you tell I’ve made this mistake before?! All blinds also come fitted with safety guards too showing a real commitment to the safety of children.

With coordinating lampshades available in every print, The Childrens Curtain Company make upcycling projects easy - old table lamps are given a fresh breath of life and become truly beautiful bedside table accessories. I’ve featured a few of my favourites below - never could resist Cath Kidston!

Clockwise (left to right): Cath Kidston Field Rose lampshade £20 / Cath Kidston Stanley Dog lampshade £20 / Cath Kidston White Rosali lampshade £20 / Cath Kidston Blue Rosali lampshade £20 / Cath Kidston Pink Paisley lampshade £20 / Cath Kidston Blue Provence £20

There’s also a great selection of cushions in beautifully traditional Jane Churchill prints inspired by Beatrix Potter, Winnie the Pooh, Quentin Blake and more. Bringing such well-known literary characters into a babies room is an easy way to bring about a sense of calm and wonder. Heidi’s room is a masterclass in accessorising with cushions and it makes me feel far more confident she won’t hurt herself when she plays in her room.

Clockwise (left to right): Beatrix Potter blue cushion £20 / Jane Churchill’s Blossom Flower Fairies cushion £20 / Thomas the Tank Engine cushion £20 / Cockatoos by Quentin Blake cushion £20 / Harlequin’s Jolly Jurassic cushion £20 / Designers Guild My Best Friend cushion £20 / Jane Churchill’s Winnie the Pooh and Friends cushion £20 / Harlequin’s What a Hoot cushion £20 / Jane Churchill’s Alphabet Beatrix Potter cushion £20

Lastly, there are a number of great duvet sets in child-friendly prints at really affordable prices - what child wouldn’t be excited about going to bed if they get to snuggle down under one of these?

Clockwise (left to right): ABC single set £14 / Fairy Patchwork single set £14 / Construction single set £14 / Cheeky Monkey single set £14 / Butterflies single set £14 / Car Mania single set £14

That’s not all. The Childrens Curtain Company also stock a number of soft toys, home-crafted noticeboards and some great storage solutions for all those toys. When Firesam Sam has lost his appeal, I know exactly where I’ll be going!

You can buy online direct from ChildrensCurtainCompany.co.uk or follow them on Facebook or Twitter for even more great bedroom inspiration. Getting Ready for C-Day with Christmas Boutique

Posted on

Last year’s Christmas was really quite terrible. We had only just moved house, the whole household was sick and I was heavily pregnant. It was embarrassingly quiet and I spent the entire day growling at Craig for flaunting alcohol in my face.

This year we’re determined to make a real fuss. I’ve got my eye on the biggest tree imaginable and am looking forward to the annual row about how to squeeze it into the house. The year before last, our tree spent 2 whole days in our bath as our holder wasn’t up to the job! I’ll also be bringing out the usual tat and decorating our windows, front door and every other visible surface in our home with a little Christmas cheer. Thankfully the lovely guys at TheChristmasBoutique.co.uk have sent us some altogether more stylish bits to stop me bankrupting us on grottoesque accessories.

Here are the truly fabulous things we were sent!

This pair of heart shaped cut-out wooden & glass lanterns are huge and create a lovely ambiance on your dining room table, or indeed outside on verandas and decking. Made from real wood and glass, the rustic finish makes every pair unique and exquisitely shabby-chic. They’re plenty big enough to create a real statement measuring 18cm x 13.cm & 26cm x 20cm.

They have a metal base and no top for safety purposes, but the glass sides do a great job of protecting your pillar candles from blowing out in harsh weather. Each lantern has a tiny catch which opens up one side - this allows you to safely deposit lit candles into the lantern without risk of burning fingers.

The pair are priced at £39.99 which seems fair for 2 quality all-year-round lanterns. For me, this is best way to shop for Christmas bits - buy gorgeous things that will brighten up you home for 12 months, not just 1!

We were also sent a set of 4 metallic peach heart shaped Christmas tree baubles that I’ve fallen in love with. I plan on teaming these with silver and gold baubles to create a seriously contemporary tree this year. I hate tinsel so will be over-accessorising with baubles and white static LED lights to create a serene and stylish centerpiece for our lounge.

These are strong and robust glass baubles with gold and silver glitter detail which catch the light beautifully! Also available in pink and red, they cost £9.99 for a set of 4.

This very sweet metal stag’s head Christmas bell with antique silver finish also found its way into my mailer. In my opinion no Christmas dinner table is complete without a traditional hand bell so I just love this little guy. It makes a fabulous loud metal chime when shaken to signal to hubby that more wine is needed, and looks like it should be gracing the set of Downton Abbey.

It’s not a huge bell so won’t dominate your dining table, but this just means it’s easier to hide behind the potato serving dish so daddy can’t find it. I can see Dexter and I having tons of fun with this getting Craig to run around the kitchen like hired help! He’s a tiny £6.99 so well worth the money if you’re planning to act like a lady of the manor this Christmas.

I simply love these paper pom poms too. I’ve been after these for ages for Heidi’s room.

Okay okay, so they’re going to be a permanent fixture not just for Christmas. But it’s not really cheating, is it? They just add a bit of interest to her ceiling above her cot and she’s utterly mesmerized by them.

They come in packs of three in tiny flat bundles. I did worry they’d be a pain to make but it took seconds. You simply fan them out and secure them with a paperclip (provided). From opening the packets to pinning them on her ceiling it took all of 5 minutes! These are an utter bargain at £6.99 per pack of 3 - we’ll certainly be buying more as Dexter needs some in his now he’s seen his baby sister’s.

Here are just a few of my other favourite things from the site!

(Left to right:) Wall Mountable Antique White Finish Stag’s or Deer Head £29.99 / Set of Three Heart Shaped Aluminum Hanging Christmas Decorations for the Home £16.99 / Large Polished Aluminum Standing Deer Stag Ornament £54.99 (other sizes available) / A Pair Of Gold Coloured Bird in Hat Christmas Ornaments £6.50 / Rams or Stags Head Cork Bottle Stopper in Silver Coloured Finish £5.99 / Large Natural Pine Cone & Leaf Design Christmas Wreath £26.99 / Set of Two Wooden Star Christmas Serving Trays £24.99/ Set of Two Natural Linen Christmas Stockings with Stag Designs £14.99 / Festive Windlight Tealight Candle Holder (Angel or Star) £7.99

I’m chuffed to bits with the things we were sent and can’t thank them enough for getting Christmas off to a cracking start. The quality is really quite brilliant and they’re also a year round store so you’re bound to bag some more bargains in the New Year, or in March, or maybe July…

Every Friday up until Christmas you can be in with the chance of winning a beautiful decoration from The Christmas Boutique by simply entering HERE. They’re also an active bunch on Facebook and Twitter with plenty of spot giveaways to keep us all in the Christmas spirit.
