Introducing Boob Designs!

I’m forever being asked to review maternity wear. Although Dexter is now a nearly-toddler, I still wear some of my comfy maternity bits. Maternity leggings and vest tops are fab as they cover your baby pouch and soften your silhouette, and try as he might, Craig is not ridding my underwear drawer of my maternity bras. Despite the fact I’m no longer breastfeeding my little rascal, the next baby will (fingers crossed) be exclusively breastfed for as long as my body will allow me to. Maternity bras are also ideal for providing us bigger breasted ladies with some extra support in the night.

When Swedish brand Boob contacted about reviewing their award-winning Fast Food nursing bra, I was hardly going to say no. Coming in either a spotty, striped, or classic design, they looked to be functional yet pretty, and seam-free so built for comfort. I’ve tried many nursing bras (including some eye-wateringly expensive ones) so couldn’t wait to see how this one measured up.

When the bra arrived it was packaged beautifully and incredibly soft to touch. Made from elastane and polyamide they are incredibly stretchy and designed to be super-fast drying (great for when you are breastfeeding). I have to say it us incredibly comfortable too. Nothing digs in anywhere; there are no wires or stiff material to leave marks under your armpits or breasts. The band underneath is nice and thick too which lends additional support for us big boobed girlies.

When nursing, only the nipple is exposed making it fabulous for great for discreet feeding if you’re a little shy about whipping them out. Boob also supply an additional hook and eye ribbon with each of their bras which can be used to extend them - just in case you pop on a few extra post-birth pounds when cream cakes and pastries are back on the menu.
.
Size-wise, owing to its international roots, Boob bras come in S, M, L and XL instead of the usual back and cup size. This unfortunately was its undoing for me. As a 36GG, I’m actually ‘too big’ to fit on the sizing chart and unfortunately the XL couldn’t accommodate me. Despite being über comfortable and being fine for wearing to bed, unless I finally book in for a breast reduction (I’d so love to), I won’t be wearing this bra out and about. As you’d imagine, 36GGs are incredibly heavy and spilling out of your bra is a no-no! The effect was to pull my breasts to each side making them look pretty unattractive under my clothes.
.
Please don’t let me put you off. In terms of innovation, quality, and comfort, this bra is right up there with the best. Retailing at £45, it’s also well priced for something you can wear throughout pregnancy and nursing, and washes like a dream. For anyone who takes a D Cup and below, I’d recommend in a heartbeat.
.
You can visit Boob’s online shop for maternity clothes, nursing wear, underwear, nightwear and lots more. They’re also on Facebook if you’d like to show them some mummy love!

GIVEAWAY & REVIEW: Blossom By Royce Lingerie Nursing/Maternity Bra (CD 31/05/2013)

I was recently contacted by Royce Lingerie about their brand new nursing bra - Blossom.

0081 GIVEAWAY & REVIEW: Blossom By Royce Lingerie Nursing/Maternity Bra (CD 31/05/2013)

Dexter is combination fed (admittedly less and less as we approach the year one mark). As Dexter was born early via emergency c-section, and my milk hadn’t fully come through, we had to supplement him with formula from the start. Couple this with his hospitalisation due to Strep B at 6 weeks - and breastfeeding got off to a very bumpy start that never really ironed itself out.

For baby 2, I hope to sustain him or her for the first year on breast milk. I’m not ashamed to admit this is primarily due to cost, and the sense of achievement of keeping baby nourished by myself - only a hermit crab could be forgiven for not knowing the health benefits, but this isn’t my primary motivation… Cue horrified grimaces. - I just believe in pro-choice.

Whatever my motivations - I couldn’t wait to try Royce’s Blossom bra and put it through its paces. As a mammoth 36GG - I have a large chest and have found that nursing / maternity bras do not usually offer me any support. Day to day I tend to wear underwired balcony style bras (and admittedly fall out of them every two minutes) so to find a bra that can ‘contain me’, without sending my prized possessions down to my knees, will be a tough ask!

Well here we go - I’m braving posing half-naked in front of the camera to show you this bra fits us big girls. PLEASE thank me and tell me I don’t look like death or I’m apt to cry all week.

So what works about this bra?

  • It’s incredibly soft. The last thing you want is something itching (and inadvertently stimulating you) when you’re ‘producing’
  • You can gather it to make into a bra shape, or wear it like a cami top - the ties are more than capable of taking the strain
  • It’s actually attractive - not like what you’d imagine your Nan to wear
  • I haven’t ‘popped out’ once

There aren’t really any negatives. Yes you expect a bit of ‘sinkage’ if you’re big chested and this does show under clothes as you’d expect. But there’s no third boob going on; There’s no wire, and the cup size is generous (meaning you’re not always oinking it up under your clothes). It’s also perfectly safe to wear at night and will take a breastpad which is comforting when you’re scared of leaking.

Okay. She wins!

It has four tightness adjustments which can be adjusted as your body changes during and after pregnancy. The clasp for nursing is also very quick and can be achieved one-handed (with a bit of practice). Available in sizes 32-40 C/D/DD, E/F/FF and G/GG/H, I’m seriously impressed. It’s not often nursing bras will cater for us big girls so I’m pleased to report that it is a success.

At just £30 it’s available to purchase from Royce Lingerie.

Want one? Well today is your lucky day! They’ve given me one to give away to a reader so get entering via the Rafflecopter below (forgive my blatant begging - you’ll see what I mean).
