The all new Wilkinson Sword Intuition Ultra Moisture Razor

Intuition

Women’s razors. I must admit, they’re not usually my thing. I’ve used Craig’s old Wilkinson Sword Hydro razor for years now. He’s now mastered the stubble-look (at my request) so he doesn’t use it anymore. I have used a Venus before but it didn’t really do it for me. I couldn’t understand why the blades were encased in plastic, and found this wasn’t suited to the natural curves of my legs.

Yet it’s not lost on me that the closer the shave, the less regularly I’ll have to do it - and as a busy mum time is not always on my side. In fact, I’m lucky if I can get 5 minutes to myself in the bath! No sooner have I dipped in a toe, than the kids are stripping off and hurdling the sides. A razor that can save me time and guarantee me a perfectly smooth leg would therefore make things ten times easier.

So when Wilkinson’s Sword recently sent me their new Intuition razor, I was naturally sceptical but intrigued by the premise - after all this is very different proposition to my trusty old Hydro.

What makes it different?

The Intuition Ultra Moisture is a dermatologically tested 3-in-1 razor, that lathers, shaves and moisturises the skin without the need for soap, shaving gel or body wash (just add water). Blade technology combined with a moisturising bar infused with shea butter also means legs are left feeling soft-to-touch with none of that dry rash sensation you sometimes get when shaving. I was particularly interested in this feature given my legs dry out really quickly and I spend a fortune on hydrating creams - especially when the sun is out.

What did I think?

Well, it certainly looks different. With its big chunky handle and lather and moisturising bar, it’s easily twice the size of Craig’s Wilkinson Sword razor. Despite this, it’s incredibly lightweight and I’m a big fan of the way it stands vertically in a cap. From a hygiene (rust) and longevity perspective this makes perfect sense to me, and it’s also less likely to fall into the water if you keep it at the side of the bath. The kit also comes with a holder which has one of those sucky things that sticks to the bathroom wall.

StandUp

In fact, there’s a lot I like about this razor. Although not the most revolutionary concept, the 4 ultra-thin blades with guard wires and pivotal head gently skim over my curves. This means you can easily get across knobbly knees and underarms with ease and with less risk of nicks and cuts. Its chunkiness and rubber grips also make it easy to keep hold of in the shower when your hands are slippy.

One quick dip in your bath water and it will successfully lubricate your legs or underarms while you shave, and leaves your skin feeling silky smooth and clean. It’s quite novel to shave without shower gel, and the bar itself smells gorgeous. I haven’t used soap in ages and did worry it might result in that squeaky cloying residue that makes me itch, but it was surprisingly gentle and nourishing.

Close

In terms of negatives, my only worry is how long the blade will last. As the soap wears down, the razor follows it so that the level of the soap and razor is always the same. Judging on how quickly it has worn down in 2 weeks, I’m doubtful it will last a full month. This did come as a bit of a shock as I can’t say I change the blades on Craig’s old razor that regularly.

At £6.45 from Boots, you get the razor ‘body’ with one clip-on blade already attached (packs of 3 blades are around the £7 mark although some packs have a money off coupon for new blades). This makes the razor slightly more expensive than similar women’s razors, and considerably more expensive than many men’s razors.

So is it worth it?

I have to say yes. Shaving-experience aside, it leaves my skin noticeably softer and smoother. In fact, a few times I’ve been in a rush and skipped my post-bath moisturise, and my legs have held up well. In fact there’s a money back guarantee if you’re not convinced, so no excuse not to treat yourself.

Was Valentine’s Day a Letdown? Say HellOoo to Smilemakers

Self-Love

It’s no secret that my kids aren’t the only one in this house with a stash of toys. I don’t think I could handle the stress of my two munchkins without a spot of me-time, and Craig and I both share the view that an intimate knowledge of our own bodies has resulted in a happy and fulfilling sex life together. We’re not randy buggers (I wish!) but we have managed to make two beautiful babies and are breezing through 5 year itch territory with no problems (*nods appreciatively at her bulging knicker drawer*).

I’m well aware that I can count a handful of mums from the school gate as sometime readers of my blog, and this doesn’t bother me at all. Like me, they’re rushing home to a mountain of washing up when they say goodbye to their children, I just happen to sometimes chose some duvet time over a coffee at 10.30am. Then it’s onto a punishing routine of running this blog, housework and scrubbing crayon off the walls! Nothing extraordinary about life within this home, I can assure you!

So when Smilemakers recently got in touch and asked me if I’d like to review a few of their new friendly vibrators, I naturally said yes. I loved their branding from the off, and am furiously nodding at their mission statement:

SmilemakersQ

YES! This encapsulates everything I’ve tried to say above. In my opinion, backed up by many of my friends, masturbation is a wonderful thing. It’s an attitude I wouldn’t be adverse to my children sharing when they’re older, respecting their privacy etc. I would much rather they learned about their bodies themselves rather than have it explored by someone else before they’re comfortable!

There are tons of hidden benefits to self-pleasuring too. Sexual wellbeing and overall wellbeing is intuitively linked. Doctors also point out that a healthy sex life (be that on your own or with a partner) means better health. An orgasm will release endorphins and oxytocin which trigger positive feelings not only affecting confidence and how beautiful you feel, but also how beautiful you look - as if you needed any more convincing…

So you’re onboard - Come meet the dream team!

In short - Smilemakers have really impressed me with their vibrators. They’re non-intimidating, battery-operated (for convenience) and made from sleek-looking silicone in pastel pallettes. With names like The Frenchman, The Tennis Coach, The Millionaire and The Fireman, they’re about far as you can get from menacing looking dildos or gawdy neon “rabbits”. This spoke to me straight away. I might have a mini collection at home, but I don’t have many big boys here. I’m lucky enough to have Craig for when I need a ‘fuller’ experience, and appreciate that 90% of women will prefer clitoral stimulation for a quick solo afternoon session. I guess you could say, I’d rather have a chicken salad than a mixed grill at lunch.

SmileMakers_massagers_product-and-package_02

This puts Smilemakers range on a par with Lelo’s bullet vibrators; small, discrete and well, friendly-looking. Yet Smilemakers have gone one step further, they’ve directly catered for those of us who prefer stimulating externally with two tongue simulators in their range. Funnily enough there aren’t many of these on the market, especially at the under £30 mark, so this appealed straight away. It’s these two I’ve reviewing below.

What did I make of them?

Like all the range, these two bad boys require 1x AAA battery and are reported to give up to 4 hours of continuous fun (chance would be a fine thing!), which is great for convenience sake although it would be good to have one included. Simply untwist the base, pop it in and they’re ready for action. I’m also impressed how all of the range have 4 speeds + pulsation - just tap on the base to move up or down a gear. This puts them in the “multi-mood” camp for me - suitable for both cheeky 5 minute thrills, or longer sessions with (or without) Craig.

Smile Makers Collection (Group 2) Mid-res

They’re made from super smooth waterproof cryogenically polished (phthalates-free) silicone with no harsh seams to catch you out. Believe it not, I’ve thrown toys away for seams before - there’s no excuse for it and it’s my pet hate. Rather these offer an incredibly soft experience, both in and out of the bath, and are a cinch to keep clean.

Noise-wise, I’d give them a 9/10. At just 40dB, in a silent house hubby won’t hear them from downstairs, but you’ll still hear a tiny buzz when operating them. This makes them a great option for foreplay where you’d rather hear each other than your shop-bought playmates (it won’t wake the kids either - bonus!).

Enough skirting about, how did they perform?

THE FIREMAN (The pink one)

I like him. He was able to bring me where I wanted to go in a matter of minutes and has become my go-to buddy when Craig is unavailable. The whole thing vibrates rather than just the tip, making it super versatile and I like the fact the speed setting is far away from the bit I’m “in the moment with” so it doesn’t interrupt what I’m doing. When on a higher setting, the tongue bit will vibrate away offering a super sensitive experience. I’d happily recommend this as an entry level vibe, or one for the pros who need something a little less intense.

I’m still waiting on the ultimate, that’s to say a vibrator with this head, but a non-moving/vibrating shaft, so you can truly relax without tell-tale buzzing hands - but this is where it slots in nicely with Craig’s and my bedroom antics as I’m not operating him.

THE FRENCHMAN (The blue one)

I don’t want to criticise this vibrator as I’m still overjoyed it’s out to stimulate the bit we all want it to. I just think it’s built for someone else. After some careful maneuvering I still got “there”, I just think The Fireman is able to whisk me there quicker. I’m putting this down to the shape of the head which, whilst still super flexible, will move around less.

That said, this is Craig’s favourite as he likens it more to himself so he finds it easier to operate - no complaints from me on this score! It’s made a cameo on a few date nights with Craig and I but for some reason I’m very conscious I can’t relax with it on my own. Again, it would be great for first timers who want to try something new, but also for couples who want to spice things up.

In conclusion

This sums up self-pleasuring for me. We all have different preferences. Half the enjoyment is finding what’s right for you, and I’m happy to report that Smilemakers have something for every taste.

The answer to postpartum hair loss? LA Science Follicle Stimulating Shampoo Review

Posted on

Pregnancy is a weird old experience. As if growing a baby in your tummy isn’t enough of a miracle, many women find that a bulging belly & evaporating waistline isn’t the only physical change their body will go through. Yep, the much touted “pregnancy glow” isn’t simply a thing your friends will toss at you to make you feel better when your tummy juts out beyond your breasts, it’s a very real phenomenon. Many women will find their nails grow stronger & longer in pregnancy, and their hair becomes thicker, fuller & more healthy-looking.

049

We can credit pregnancy hormones for our luscious locks, in particular a surge in estrogen. Increased blood circulation and a pumped-up metabolism bring more nutrients to your hair, making it less brittle and likely to fall out. Normally, the average head loses 100 hairs a day — but not all at once, so you don’t notice them. Pregnancy temporarily halts this shedding giving mums-to-be longer & fuller tresses.

Postpartum hair loss

Unfortunately, before you have time to get your bum down to a L’Oreal casting, your baby will arrive and post-partum hairloss will kick in. Between 3-6 months after giving birth many women experience a sudden shedding where hair that didn’t fall out in pregnancy, now will. So, at a time when you are most likely sleep deprived, missing your bump, and feeling terribly body conscious, it can come as quite the shock to wake up to a pillow full of hair.

Introducing LA Science Follicle Stimulating Shampoo & Anti Hair Loss Serum

LA Science Hairloss

LA Science dual anti hair loss regime uses clinically proven technology to improve the thickness, and overall health of your hair. An advanced anti hair loss system, LA Science Follicle Stimulating Shampoo & Serum offers a twofold treatment to tackle the woes of thinning hair, and extend the growth phase of the hair cycle.

Not only is it quickly garnering a reputation as a solution for postpartum hair loss, it’s also fab for both men and women suffering during the winter months due to changeable weather and the effects of central heating.

How does it work?

It’s all quite simple really. It uses an active peptide combination that is delivered directly to the roots to nurture and thicken thinning hair. The act of gently massaging LA Science Follicle Stimulating Shampoo into the scalp every day, helps to increase blood flow to the scalp, condition hair and follicles and prevent hair loss.

ACTIVE INGREDIENTS: Copper Tripeptide (to increase blood supply) / Biotin & Arginine (to create a healthy environment for hair to thrive) / Hydrolysed Keratin & Silk (a fibrous structural protein, naturally occurring within hair, that helps protect it from damage and stress)

Couple this with twice daily LA Science Anti Hair Loss Serum and your hair has the very best weapons at its disposal to combat physical stress on the hair shaft and defend itself against breakage.

ACTIVE INGREDIENTS: Peptides (to encourage stronger hair shafts to grow at source) / Portulaca Oleracea & Polygala Tenuifolia Root Extracts (Chinese herbs renowned for their ability to balance hair & scalp deficiencies) / Hyaluronic acid (a moisturiser capable of carrying up to 100x its weight in water to further condition the hair)

LA SCIENCE PRESS

As featured in More Magazine, Maytime Times & Your Hair Magazine

Delivery of the active ingredients to the hair follicle helps:

  1. - Improve blood supply to the scalp
  2. - Revitalise and rejuvenate the hair follicle
  3. - Strengthen the hair shaft
  4. - Normalise the hair growth cycle
  5. - Inhibits depigmentation
  6. - Activates the stem cells of the hair follicle

What did I make of it?

I’ve always had very thin and fine hair. It won’t hold a curl any longer than an hour, and only needs threatening with a pair of straighteners to fall into line. When I was a teenager, my ears would regularly poke through this gossamer curtain and I earned the nicknamed “weasel ears” - needless to say I absolutely hated it and always lusted after fuller hair.

Pregnancy delivered this dream in all it’s technicolour glory and brushing my hair was a real treat. My Denman brush was swept to the side to make way for an oversized paddle brush, and I started having fun with my GHDs. Yet all this was short-lived and my hair promptly fell out when I packed in breastfeeding after 6 weeks.

LA Science seemed like an interesting proposition. I understood the science behind it, but wondered just how much more effective it would be compared to a good head massage (which would surely bring about a similar increased blood flow). I also had reservations about how soft and glossy my hair would be if I ditched my conditioner (this is not required when you use the shampoo & serum in tandem).

Using the system is a bit of a departure from my normal hair care regime. As my hair is prone to drying out and split-ends, I only tend to wash it 3 times a week. Switching to daily washing was a bit of a chore at first, but spurred on by the possibility of thicker hair, I stuck with it.

The shampoo is best described as iridescent in colour and smells like liquid hand soap (so not unpleasant). It comes in an 250ml pump action bottle with screw top lid (ideal for eeking out the dregs of the bottle) and lathers beautifully making it easy to massage in. I paid extra attention to my scalp and massaged it in for a good 5 mins before working it through to the ends.

LA Science

The serum is fragrance-less and a light and non greasy texture that sinks in quickly. It’s recommended you massage in twice a day (morning & 2 hours before bedtime) although I was a little confused as the instructions didn’t state whether to use on wet or dry hair, and how much to use. I ended up doing a bit of both - massaging in a few generous drops after my morning hair wash onto towel dried hair, and in the evening on bone dry hair. Pleasingly, as the formula is so light, it didn’t leave my hair feeling greasy, lank or itchy.

In fact, the serum is the real winner for me. It’s like a leave-in conditioner that delivers soft and healthy-looking hair that stays clean and fresh for longer. On the few occasions I haven’t got around to washing my hair of a morning, the serum keeps my hair from drying out and prepares it perfectly for styling.

Does my hair feel thicker? Yes, a little. I’m only two weeks into my trial but I already feel more hair-confident.

Does it feel healthier? Yes, yes, yes.

Any niggles? Nope.

LA Science are priced very reasonably at £14.99 (shampoo) & £29.99 (serum) and available from all major Boots stores and online at www.la-science.co.uk (the website is currently having a makeover so to purchase online, head on over to Amazon). If you decide to give it a go, do let me know what you think.
