GIVEAWAY - Win a Unique Baby Gift Box from UK Baby Box (CD: 09/06/2014)

I didn’t have a baby shower for Heidi. I was feeling so fat and blotted by the end of my pregnancy that I didn’t dare go out or see my friends until she finally arrived. I know (for many) it’s not healthy to squirrel yourself away, but I doubt I could have squeezed through the door if I’d wanted to, and the last thing I felt like doing was being surrounded by a cloud of baby pink when Heidi was being so stubborn.

I had a shower (of sorts) for Dex, but this was just family and friends. The gift that sticks out the most by far was a cute little wicker basket crammed full of essentials that I hadn’t even been aware I had needed. Of course, I’d done the whole ‘first-timer’ thing and stocked up the nursery with too many outfits and teddies, but I wasn’t quite up to speed with some of the less cute bits and pieces… gripe water, dummy clips, breast pads, nipple creams… It’s so nice when someone in-the-know steps in and pre-empts your naivety.

In fact, handpicked gift baskets are always likely to score you brownie points if you’re en route to a baby shower anytime soon. But of course it’s not easy to find the time to pop these together.

This is where family run business UK Baby Box come in.

UK Baby Box offer unique baby boxes and baskets at affordable prices and take all the faff out of picking something special that will make the mum-to-be smile . Each box contains handpicked items for babies aged birth to one year. What’s more, you can create-your-own or pick from set boxes, and there’s free UK shipping to boot.

As a celebration of their launch, they’ve given me a unique baby gift box to giveaway to one of my readers. If you’re expecting a baby boy, or know someone about to pop with one, this might be the perfect giveaway for you.

  7. My workmates bought me a bottle of gin as a leaving present. I happened to be 7 months pregnant at the time but I suppose it’s the thought that counts.

  8. I don’t think I got anything unusual, my sister got a bouquet made out of vest, socks, mits and sleep suits for 0-3 and 3-6 thought that was a really nice idea

  10. We’ve a friend expecting a boy, so this would be perfect. Now, I don’t have any strange baby related gifts to relate, but. When my tomboy partner, Lisa, was 15, her aunt gave her a my little pony skipping rope. How did she think this was a good idea? I mean a boxer type skipping rope would have been acceptable, but pink and cutesy? Oh dear.

  11. I recently made a gift for a colleague leaving on maternity. She’d seen a babygrow online with wings on the back and wanted to get one but they were very expensive. Being into crafts i decided to make a personalised version for her. I hand crocheted a pair of wings and sewed them onto the back and also embroided and message onto the feet of the babygrow. She absolutely loved it!

  12. I’m a big Rolling Stones fan & my best friend got me a lullaby version CD of Rolling Stones songs - it was a great & very thoughtful gift! :)

  13. A book from all my friends & family with notes from them with tips and info to help me in the first days.

  15. For my baby shower present, my friends bought me a beautiful limited edition Quentin Blake illustration

  16. I don’t know if I’m having a girl or a boy. We decided that we wanted a surprise rather than knowing but this box looks so good.

  17. We always give new parents at work a baby grow that we’ve all signed and decorated with fabric pens instead of a card!

  18. After I had my first daughter I had a short stay in hospital - and whilst all the other mums were being bought in Flowers and Balloons, My Husband walked in with a huge watermelon, The nurses faces were a picture and when I asked why he had bought me that - he answered well you like watermelon!!!

  19. I never had a baby shower as my son couldnt wait to come out 2 months early, so i had lots of lovely gifts at the hospital.

  20. A handknitted cardigan when my daughter was christened. She is now nearly 3 and it would still be too big for her and with the design you prob wouldn’t put it on a baby over 6 months. Its the thought that counts :D

  21. I had a flower bouquet with most of the flowers made of socks, vests, bibs, muslins etc. it was really pretty

  22. silver tooth curl and birth certificate holder.
as well as winnie the pooh of the above they were so cute not seen them anywhere since

  23. it was a big three tier cake and a bouquet of flowers made of nappies, toys and baby clothes and blankets. Was really really gorgeous.

  24. Letters, poems, etc I’d written bound as a book. Still makes me teary eyed to think of that one!

  25. WHEN MY MUM WAS PREGNANT WITH ME SHE WAS GIVEN A SEED FOR A WILLOW TREE AS WE LIVED IN A HOUSE WITH A BEAUTIFUL LITTLE STREAM RUNNING IN FRONT OF IT. YOU HAD TO CROSS A SMALL WOODEN BRIDGE TO GET TO THESE FEW HOUSES. WHEN I WAS BORN MY DAD PLANTED IT AS A SYMBOL OF MY BIRTH AND SOMETHING TO WATCH GROW WITH ME. I’M NOW 38 ; THE TREE IS MAGNIFICENT AND LOOKS SO LOVELY DRAPING ALONG THE BANK AND INTO THE WATER. IT’S A NICE STORY TO TELL WHEN PEOPLE COMMENT ON THE TREE.

  26. When my little one was born I was given a t-shirt for a 10 year old! bit early i think lol

  27. Not exactly unique, but the loveliest gift was a week’s worth of meals after my son was born. Lovely thoughtful gift

  28. A magnifying mirror! :(

  29. My Sister In Law bought me a personalised baby box to keep all my pregnancy things in, it is beautiful, hand made, i put in my pregnancy tests, hospital bracelets, scan pics, and all other things relating to my first baby , sometimes i get the box out, and show my hubby to make him more broody :-)

  30. My mother in law made me this awesome motorbike nappy cake and my husband’s first teddy as a baby was the driver.

  31. My most unique gift were reusable breast pads, I thought my friend had gone mad but I can’t live without them now.

  32. I received a personalised poster when my baby was born, you got to choose how many adults, children, babies (and whether male or female), plus number and type of pets. It’s a lovely and unique way to commemorate our family in that year!

  38. The best gift I received was a maternity photo shoot. I really enjoyed it and I have beautiful pictures of me and my bump to cherish forever :)

  39. There were no ‘baby showers’ when mine were born and they just received the normal gifts of clothing. My son has received the Christening cake from me for his last 2 daughters and will probably get another for his newborn

  40. An outfit with Chinese symbols on - I had no idea what they meant and wouldn’t let my daughter wear it just in case!
