Calling all dads!

Would you let your child dress you for the day?

Men’s Clothing site, Fashion Beans are asking exactly this in the lead up to Father’s Day in their #DressDadComp.

And we tried it ourselves!

Capture

We actually had to go to a charity shop to buy up some colourful threads given Craig’s wardrobe is pretty sober. In fact, for a man on the wrong side of 40, he’s actually pretty trendy! Let loose in daddy’s drawers, Dex would have pulled out something Craig would be happy to wear walking down the street - being the evil wifey I am, I couldn’t have that…

So Dex picked out this charming (and really quite hideous) shirt from Sue Ryder - no doubt his muse was Woody from Toy Story - and a tie that should never have made it to print. Teamed with a pair of daddy’s work shorts, Craig looked suitably ridiculous, and Dex was ready to show off his daddy to the world (well, his mates at nursery at least).

THE COMP

If you know a man-shaped person that is ripe for a makeover, you could win £100 of Fashion Beans vouchers simply by channeling your child’s inner Gok Wan.

It couldn’t be simpler - have your kid rummage around at the back of their wardrobe, pull out some moth-eaten crimes-against-fashion, and dress them up. Have mum on standby with her iPhone and share a pic on Fashion Bean’s Instagram by 20th June (with the hashtag #DressDadComp). That’s it!

Full T&Cs are here

I can think of nothing better to do than this on a Sunday afternoon. Winning could mean your fella can bag an on-point outfit using the vouchers - even if you don’t, your child(ren) will get a cheap laugh, and you get to finally bin the horrors hiding beneath hubby’s tees! - Win, win!

Have fun entering, and feel free to pop back here and share your creations!

3 high fashion looks for ladies with curves

Posted on

Curvy ladies are finally being celebrated, in the media and even in high end modelling agencies; with Tess Munster leading the way when it comes to body acceptance and learning to love yourself. Her #effyourbeautystandards campaign is helping women all over the world come together to celebrate diversity in body shapes and to support each other, instead of shaming other women.

The fashion world has also recently embraced this mantra, with high street stores offering something for everyone, including the curvier ladies who are looking for clothes that fit but are also on trend. Ignore ignorant people like Jamelia when they say that plus size clothes shouldn’t be allowed on the high street, just because you’re curvier doesn’t mean you shouldn’t look and feel good every single day.

Here are three high fashion looks for you to try out:

Embrace the crop top

Crop tops are a trend that isn’t going to disappear any time soon, so instead of shying away from them because you think you can’t pull one off because you’re curvy – just look how blogger gabifresh pulls it off.

Pair a high neck crop top with a tulle skater skirt for that cute Carrie Bradshaw look and finish off with strappy heels and a leather jacket draped around your shoulders. We can’t get enough of the skirt selection at BV (Blue Vanilla) for a high end, fairy tale look.

Knee high, thigh high, sky high

It doesn’t matter whether you are a size 6, 16 or 26, knee and thigh highs look amazing on everyone and don’t need to just be worn in boot form.

Pick up some knee high socks and pair them your favourite trainers and a loose t-shirt dress for sportswear chic, or alternatively get your hands on some tights featuring sheer thighs and suspender patterns. These look incredible with heels and a little black dress, the suspender elongates the leg and adds a sexy twist to a classic look. Red lipstick to finish the look off is a must.

Dare to double denim

Hear us out, because no matter how much we try to avoid it, double denim is here to stay and it’s a look the celebs like to play with too. Okay, it is probably best to avoid the Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake ensemble circa 2001, but double denim is definitely a look you can rock and one that designers, such as Gucci, embraced for the catwalk this year.

Curvy blogger Chante B. gets it right with this outfit, which combines a timeless pair of jeans, a denim shirt and a bright denim jacket thrown over the shoulders – see, not a denim cowboy hat in sight! Finish off with heels and a chunky necklace for everyday wear or even when heading to the bar on a Friday night after work.

Whatever your size or shape, it’s important that you wear what you feel comfortable in and just remember you can never go wrong with a cute fit and flare dress!

GIVEAWAY: Win a £25 SWIMSHOP Voucher (CD: 12/06/2015)

Our first family holiday of the year was almost four weeks ago, but this blog is still very much in the holiday mindset. Even though it’s raining outside, I’ve been struck with a bout of insomnia and Heidi has a snotty nose - I’m still mentally on a sandy beach eyeballing bronzed torsos over the top of my sunglasses. I’m still ploughing my way through reviews of holiday essentials and Craig is still serving me evening drinks with cocktail umbrellas.

We obviously had our holiday early (as my tiddlers are nursery age) but my Facebook timeline is full of mum and dads counting down the days until July when the school holidays hit. With no sign of this heatwave we were all promised, we’re all looking for an excuse to pop on our maxi dresses and air our legs.

Whether you’re plumping for a beach holiday, or something else entirely, you’re probably already shortlisting swimming costumes for the family. Well let me help you out. The guys over at SWIMSHOP have a £25 voucher to giveaway to one of you - given their prices are some of the most reasonable I’ve found, this could mean one member of the family is sorted without you having to delve into your purse. Better yet, there’s a staggering choice of men’s swimwear, women’s costumes and child floatation suits, so you’re bound to find something that suits one of your brood (if you’re not treating yourself, of course).

(Left to right): Speedo Mens Endurance + Essential Classic Aquashort £13 / Zoggs Womens Neon Tribal Sandon Scoop Back Swimsuit £27.99 / Speedo Womens Speedosculpture Crystalshine Swimsuit £30 / Splash About Sun Protection Float Suit £26.99 / Konfidence Jacket Blue £26.99 / Splash About Designer Float Suit (Girls) £28.99 / Funkita Womens Still Black Ruched One Piece Swimsuit £67.99 / Zoggs Womens Neon Tribal Crossback Swimsuit £27.99 / Speedo Mens Check Leisure Swim Short £12.50

Of course, you don’t have to buy swimwear at all. SWIMSHOP also stock swimming aids and inflatables for the kiddies. Our Zoggs training seat (pictured below) has proved invaluable for introducing both Dexter and Heidi to the pool and is just £12.50 on the site. You’ll also find water basketball nets, snorkles and googles for older kids - any of which could bag you some serious mummy-points.

Whatever you fancy getting your mitts on, enter below for your chance to win a £25 SWIMSHOP voucher. There’s nothing like a new bikini arriving in the post to get you excited about your holiday!
