I’m a terrible housewife. I love messing around with the kids during the day but the house will often look like a crime scene by the time their dad gets home from work.

Things have been made worse by the fact we’ve just moved house and now have laminate floor in my kitchen and dining room. This is my pet hate as it seems to show up dust and dirt far more than the tiles in my previous home. Cleaning it is really the pits. I’m usually down on my hands and knees with a bowl of water and a rag looking like a downtrodden Cinderella. It’s cold, it’s uncomfortable, it’s dirty. I hate this job so much, I often trade it in with Craig for a less strenuous one - maybe bathing the kids or blitzing the bathroom.

So when I received an email recently with news of the Spontex Full Action System, I was really keen to try it out. The website promised a compact, effective and efficient cleaning system. The bucket has a hidden compartment for water disposal meaning that it is entirely splash-free. For both wetting and wringing out the mop, you simply rest it upon a ledge (of sorts) within the bucket and spin the mop head by moving your hand up and down the shaft of the mop. This means you use less water, and the mop is not too wet when you begin mopping - in short, you can do the entire job without bending over.

Due to its exclusive 360 degree self-wringing system, Spontex Full Action System wrings and rinses the mop head effectively and easily. The microfibre fringes are super absorbent and the mop head has an extra microfibre pad underneath for maximum surface coverage. You can easily empty and clean the bucket which is specially designed to prevent splashing whilst wringing!

As for the mop itself, it’s a pleasure to use. It’s incredibly lightweight and the head will flex back and forth as you clean. Owing to its quality soft fine microfibre head, you also get superb contact with the floor. Being ultra absorbent it also doesn’t simply move dirt from one area to another, rather you get a streak-free finish that is quick-to-dry - so perfect for busy families that can’t spend more than five minutes out of the kitchen.

The microfibre mop is made up of thousands of tiny fibres, so the number of contact points with the surface is greater than a standard mop, making it more absorbent and ultra efficient at picking up dirt and dust. It is also machine washable and you can use it without chemicals too, reducing detergent consumption and helping you do your bit for the environment

Although it’s round it handles tight spaces and corners brilliantly as it has an extra microfibre pad underneath that you can push right up against furniture and kitchen units. This also means stubborn marks lift off easily with a little bit of back and forth action.

I also really like the fact you don’t have to spend a fortune on hazardous cleaning products too. I simply use a tiny squirt of washing up liquid which performs perfectly adequately. When finished, you can unclip the mop head and pop it in the washing machine eradicating resulting smells and extending the life of your mop. With this in mind, a quick tip to anyone thinking of investing in this system would be to buy a replacement head (just £4.99) at the same time. This means that when one head is in the washing machine, you have a spare ready for minor spillages.

One last minor point is that it could have done with a few more instructions for putting it together and operating the spin / wringer function on the bucket. I must admit, I did hear a few expletives coming from the kitchen when I tasked Craig with setting it up. I figured this out straight away but my Craig (like so many men before him) loves a good instruction book.

I won’t say that the Spontex Full Action System has made me fall in love with cleaning my floors as a lottery win would see me cheerfully handing this job onto someone else, but it has halved the time it takes to complete the job and I am far happier on my feet than my hands and knees. As far as mops go, this is probably the best I’ve used and I’d happily recommend to anyone in the market for a new one.
