As part of my Mumbassadorial role with BRITAX - I’m often being sent handy tips and advice on everything parent-related. Although BRITAX and their sister company BOB are primarily concerned with pushchairs and transporting your little one around safely, they also offer of wealth of information on pregnancy and post-natal fitness. I’ve previously shared an article on My Mills Baby about tips to help mums stay fit and active throughout pregnancy, post-birth, and beyond developed with leading personal trainer Laura Williams exclusively for BRITAX, and now she’s joined forces with BOB to launch the 30 Day Fitness Challenge.

Although, for obvious reasons, I’ll be holding off on any weight-loss ambitions for a few months, when Mini Madam arrives I’ll be frantically Googling diet and exercise in a bid to shed the baby weight - I think Craig’s probably had quite enough of struggling to get his arms around my waist! Laura’s 30 Day Fitness Challenge seems like the perfect way to kick-start this so I’ll be joining in! Here’s all the information you need.

Sticking to your weight-loss resolutions with the BOB 30 Day Fitness Challenge!

We all love to begin the New Year with the best of intentions, vowing to ditch bad habits and have a healthier and happier year ahead. But as we all know, will power can dwindle all too quickly. Many people will already have abandoned their resolutions just weeks into the New Year - in fact Friday 24th Jan is ‘Fail Friday’ – the day where resolutions are most likely to be broken!

Resolutions often sound easy but are harder to put into practice – resolutions like spending more quality time with the family, planning regular date nights with our other halves, eating more healthily as a family and exercising more to shift those extra baby pounds. We start with the best intentions to keep to them but they can often fall by the wayside when real life gets in the way.

We believe the key to successful resolution keeping, is to keep it simple, make it enjoyable and ensure it fits in with your everyday life!

That’s why BOB have teamed up with fitness expert, Laura Williams, to create a realistic 30-day fitness challenge for busy parents, designed to help you burn calories and tone up simply by doing everyday tasks around the home. Genius!

This 30-day calendar is packed full of daily hints, tips and motivating advice that will not only make you smile but get your heart beating too - best of all, everything can be done whilst with your little one! All you have to do is print it out and pin it somewhere you can see it.

Check out more information on the exciting BOB range here and you can print your very own plan and get active today by visiting BOB’s Active Parents site. Ooooh and I almost forgot - I’m soon to be road test the BOB Revolution SE so keep an eye out for my review!

Comfy Maternity & Nursing Solutions from Cantaloop

So as I mentioned in my latest bump update, I’m feeling a little on the gargantuan side now. An educated guess tells me this baby is long as her feet are already (at 27 weeks) regularly finding their way into my ribcage, and my super-sized bump is rock solid. With the best will in the world, you can’t buy up the entire range of maternity underwear from Mothercare for these few short months (well actually you could… I bet Simon Calver would kiss your swollen feet in gratitude too given their current financial difficulties) so at times you’ll often find yourself squeezing into your regular knickers. The result is definitely not the sexy feminine look you’ve working hard to cultivate whilst your tummy morphs beyond all recognition.

So when Cantaloop got in touch and asked me to take a look at their maternity and nursing ranges, I was looking forward to popping on something a little slinkier for bedtime. Until that point I’d been wearing a non-maternity vest top and a pair of Calvin Klein PJ bottoms which gave me the silhouette of a beer barrel.

Cantaloop Packaging

I opted for the Cantaloop Pregnancy / Nursing Tank Top (£28.49) to finally give baby the freedom to move around without a waistband cutting into her wriggle room. As I was a size 14/16 dress size and took a 36G bra before becoming pregnant, I opted for the biggest size possible (size 5) so my boobs have plenty of room. I’m really glad I did as it fits perfectly. An integrated nursing bra under the vest section gives greater support and lifts the breast slightly so you can go without a bra whilst you’re lounging around at home. Despite my boobs being incredibly heavy, the tank top makes them appear surprisingly perky.

The tummy section is lovely and loose so baby has plenty of room to grow even bigger (please… not much more baby!). Even more impressive, the soft and stretchy material (91% Polymide and 9% Elastane) also snaps back into its original shape when you’re no longer pregnant so you aren’t left with a baggy mass around your midriff after baby has vacated. The material is supremely soft and breathable so it’s a perfect choice for winter or summer. I’ve dozens of nightdresses in a similar material and it’s really light and comfortable for wearing at night.

For nursing, the Cantaloop tank top has drop cups to gain access to your breasts. I must admit these aren’t as easy as some of my nursing bras to unclasp but then I’m very out of practice! For ease of feeding though, it seems to be a genius little design but I’ll have to report further on that when Mini Madam is here.

The top washes like a dream on a 40 degree cycle and the fact that it’s seam-free means you can bung it in with the rest of the family’s clothes without compromising its shape. From experience of washing things with a similar material mix, I’m also confident it won’t bobble over time. If their bras are anywhere near as comfy, I’m in for a treat when I’m nursing Mini Madam. I’ve also gone ahead and ordered the over-the-bump pregnancy panties as my regular knickers are now gathering slightly under my bump, and have been chaffing my c-section scar.

Cantaloop Pregnancy Support Belt

I also opted to try the Cantaloop Pregnancy Support Belt (a staggeringly cheap £13.30) out to see how it compares to my current 3M Nexcare one. The 3M Nexcare one is fine over clothes, but not designed to be worn against the skin. For anything other than wearing in the house, it’s therefore impractical. The Cantaloop one promises to be a different proposition as it’s much like the gusset of maternity tights without any fastenings to secure it. Despite this, it’s surprisingly easy to pop on and slips easily over my legs and up over the bump. As it’s super-stretchy. I plumped for a 3L as my actual frame isn’t quite as large as my boobs suggest.

So do I like it? YES, YES, YES and YES. This bad boy is incredibly supportive and easy to wear. Despite no fastenings, it doesn’t roll up and gather around my back or under my bump, and I still have more than enough to room to accommodate an ever-expanding bump. It stretches up right over my belly and ends just underneath my breasts. These generous proportions are really impressive and I’m convinced the bigger sizes could accommodate a much larger woman.

Given I’ve already modeled the tank top, I won’t embarrass myself by striping down to my knickers like something out of reader’s wives! But I can tell you the silhouette of my bump wearing this is much softer and I feel far more confident.

Finally I give Cantaloop’s packaging a big thumbs up. There’s something very cute about these tubs and they’re really useful for storing things. It certainly feels more special than receiving your order in a plain bag!

If you’d like to know more about these (and other) maternity & nursing solutions from Cantaloop, you can visit the website, and follow Cantaloop on Twitter and Facebook. There are also tons of reviews by other mummy bloggers if you do a quick Google search. In short, I’m very happy to recommend these products to other baby-carrying mamas!

DISCLAIMER: I was sent these products in return for an honest review. Thanks Cantaloop, I’m really pleased with them.

27 Weeks Pregnant!

Posted on

So at 27 weeks pregnant, I finally caved and hit the sales in a bid to get ready for Mini Madam’s arrival. Having sorted out all Dexter’s old babygros I think we were both a little embarrassed how stained and stretched they were! So we had a mass binning session and charity shop dump last weekend to make room for baby. Her nursery is now crammed with tiny dresses and rompers which has made things feel a little more real. We still have a long way to go though and are short on blankets, bedding, and little places for her to chill out (rockers and swings etc). If you spot any bargains, or have any recommendations - do chuck me the links as I need all the help I can get!

Baby Clothes

Name choices have also been coming thick and fast this week and we now have a A3 sheet of paper covered with ‘possibles’ strung up in the bathroom… not the traditional place I know, but I figure it’s the best place for Craig to have a little ‘think’. Far from shying away from the oldie-worldly names, Craig has perhaps embraced the idea a little too much and I’ve spotted some truly awful ones being secretly scrawled onto the list. I have a feeling I’ll have a fight on my hands to get her a name she won’t hate us for when she’s older.

Thankfully the morning sickness has flared only once this week, but sciatica strikes every few hours. I’ve dug out my old bump bands and have given up attempting to walk gracefully. Taking my boots off after a trip out now resembles a yoga move with lots of grunting and swearing for dramatic effect. The overall effect is a little like I’m trying to make Team GB’s Weightlifting squad for Rio.

27 Week Bump

Glancing down at my naked tummy, my belly button is now a little off-centre so it seems Mini Madam has a preferred side. If you press lightly over the bump there are two slightly harder spots (feet and head) which means we’re able to gauge her length with a little more accuracy. She’s definitely longer than Dexter was at this stage and I’ve had the odd killer moment where her tiny feet have lodged into my ribs. Not only is this seriously painful, I’m also more than a little squeamish about having to poke them back through.

Due to her tiny lungs functioning better now, in just a few short weeks she’s gone from having a 1 in 4 chance of premature survival, to very good odds. There’s also a good chance she’s sucking her fingers and hiccuping in there now. Next week I’ll be in the third trimester and we’ll be on the home stretch. I’m really looking forward to having my body back to myself, and can’t wait to for that first celebratory swig of champagne. I figure I deserve it.
