Boy do I not miss pregnancy. Both of mine were terrible from the very start to their bloody conclusions on operating tables at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. They definitely didn’t come naturally to me and the thought of carrying another person inside me made me feel anxious and uncomfortable. I can honestly say those 40 weeks felt more like 40 years.

As with most pregnant women, sleeping was a royal pain. Not only was I finding it harder to drop off, and more difficult to sleep through Craig’s snoring, I simply couldn’t master how to not sleep on my front. I once quipped during my original review for Theraline that I might as well have changed my name to Goldilocks given the sheer number of maternity pillows I tried. Theraline was simply the best one by far, so much so I still use mine for general R&R to this day.

Theraline-lying

The Original Theraline Original Pregnancy & Baby Feeding Pillow has a unique filling made of millions of sand-like micro beads. This means the pillow naturally moulds to the shape of your body, no matter what position you are in. It’s long, at 190cm, so supports your entire body and provides relief for legs, belly and a stressed back, yet also the head and feet. Encased in the softest mercerized extra-soft twill or jersey cotton, it’s a super snuggly bedtime companion that will leave you wondering what on earth you ever did without it.

As you can distribute the micro beads to your liking, you can make the head bit as firm or soft as you like. I used mine much like the picture above and it replaced my regular pillow throughout my pregnancy. Cuddling this every night also kept me firmly on my side of the bed and relieved any anxiety I had about rolling onto baby. It’s also anti-allergenic, warm and breathable.

Post-pregnancy, it’s incredibly useful for those with any post-partum injury (c-sections for example) and also for breastfeeding. Whether you prefer to feed baby on your lap, lying down or “rugby-ball” style, it works with you to provide somewhere comfortable for baby, cocooning him or her to mimic mum’s womb. It can also washed at 60°C should you have any nursing misadventures.

If you’d like to bag your own, you can get one in a variety of styles for just £44.95 from Theraline’s online shop, or check out scores of other reviews by following them on Twitter and Facebook.

At 13 weeks, I’ve now a very round mummy indeed! I’m constantly being asked how long I have to go and having my nephews and nieces stroke my belly. Just yesterday whilst waiting in my dentists surgery I sat looking down at my belly in disbelief - seconds later the receptionist asked me if baby was kicking. Kicking? At 13 weeks? Baby is just 70mm so clearly not! Seems this baby is determined to make itself comfy in 5* accommodation for the next 6 months.

Sleeping is pretty uncomfortable. I’m used to laying on my tummy and managed it up until month 7 of my pregnancy with Dexie. With this pregnancy I’m already rolling around in bed like an upturned turtle. Re-training myself to sleep on my side has been a long slog already and I might as well change my name via deed poll to Goldilocks given the sheer number of maternity pillows I’ve tried. To be honest I wasn’t filled with optimism when Theraline offered up a Original Maternity Pillow - although I’ve read some great reviews, I’ve read equally good things about some other pillows I’ve spent my hard earned pennies on only to be disappointed.

Boy was I wrong.

I’ve picked some stand out review items recently and this one is by far my favourite. Sleeping without it on holiday was terrible and one of the main things I was looking forward to upon getting home.

So why is it so damned good?

Well first of all, I guess I should describe it. It’s a crescent-shaped long pillow stuffed full of feather light micro beads. On the face it of it, it sounds hugely uncomfy - I mean most of us wouldn’t anticipate a good nights sleep cuddling up to a bean bag. But for some reason this works a treat. I lie it out beside me on the bed, give it a good whack in the middle so the beads gather at either end and it’s firm enough to replace my usual pillow under my head, and drape my legs over the bottom. It’s so versatile that you can adjust to work for you (whatever your condition / discomfort) > My mother-in-law has a broken shoulder and I’ve recommended it to her.

It’s definitely helped me stay on my side when sleeping and therefore has reduced the number of times I’m waking in the night. It also eases any anxiety I might have about rolling onto my back and snoring! I’m forever punching Craig for this and would hate for him to tell me that I’d done it the morning after at the breakfast table!

It really is the best maternity pillow I’ve tried. It’s a 5 star product in my eyes and I’ll definitely be using it for breastfeeding and simply chilling out with baby when he or she arrives.

Stand-out Features:

  • You can make it as firm or as soft as you want by spreading out the bead filling inside
  • Offers the ultimate in flexibility as it moulds to your body shape
  • Incredibly soft and tasteful fabric cover
  • Completely multifunctional - perfect for pregnancy, general lateral sleeping and leg support, breastfeeding or relaxing in front of the telly
  • Machine washable for any potential nursing misadventures

In order to properly illustrate how the maternity pillow is also ideal for nursing women post-pregnancy (and other uses besides!) here are some blogger reviews from some other yummy mummy’s
