Imagine having a budget of £5000 to create the ultimate bedroom… That’s exactly what Debenhams have tasked bloggers everywhere to do. You simply pick absolutely anything bedroom-related from their website, pop it in a moodboard, and share your inspiration with your readers for a chance to win a staggering £500 worth of vouchers. Be rude not to join in, hey?
Although you could hardly mistake me for Kelly Hoppen, I love a bit of interior design. Despite the fact I’m soon to have two little people under two years in our home, I still believe you can have pretty things - you just need to place them out of the reach of drool-covered fingers!
Grown-up bedrooms are spaces where you can be a little more creative. Hopefully your babies won’t ever be in there without you, so you can afford to put the odd delicate feature in there. It’s also the one room in our house where you definitely won’t find a stray piece of Lego or board book that been chewed within an inch of its life.
Currently our bedroom is red and white - although not in a teenage-homage-to-Manchester-United kind of way - I’m actually surprised how girlie Craig has allowed me to make it so far! But I’m bored of the colour scheme and would love to inject a bit more personality into it. Ideally I’d like a cosy, warm, and opulent place to kick the butt out of all these migraines I keep getting. I can only imagine these getting ten times worse when I’m sleep deprived, exhausted and delirious thanks to the arrival of baby 2.
£5000 is a huge amount of money - but there’s so much choice at Debenhams it actually makes it ten times harder! Add in a fabulous Blue Cross Sale where some prices have been slashed to 60%, and I was under my imaginary budget. Here’s what I’ve come up with…

I’d love to come up with a really fancy explanation for my choices - maybe something about the dichotomy between man-made and natural fabrics, or the juxtaposition of silk and brick - but I’d be making a prat out of myself. In truth, I just like all the bits and think they happen to look perfect together. There’s no accounting for taste after all! And let’s face it, if it does end up looking a little chaotic (after all there is hint of a ‘flicked paintbrush’ about it) then it would reflect my personality down to a tee.
So what do you think?
