Baby’s Natural Skincare with Shelf Appeal - Love Boo Review

It’s not often you come across children’s skincare you’d be proud to display in your bathroom. Let’s face it, when mummy’s home spa becomes a family bathroom, you are usually greeted by a sea of garish primary colours nestled among the Radox and Pantene. Gone are the tea lights and fresh flowers, and in comes the plastic bath toys. I’m now chuffed to bits I’ve stumbled across Love Boo’s Natural Baby Skincare Collection - they certainly win on the style stakes.

The brain child of two ex former magazine editors (Jennifer and Corinna). They wanted to create a range of skincare that was not only suitable for the delicate skin of babies, but also the wider family. Jennifer (a beauty expert) certainly has the health and beauty credentials as her former life had been spent extensively researching and writing about the preservatives and synthetic ingredients used in beauty products, and their negative effects on both the skin and environment.

“We feel that quality skincare shouldn’t be an extravagance reserved for special occasions, which is why every one of our products is honestly priced and really does make a difference to the look and feel of your skin… From day one, we have always insisted that manufacture stays within the UK to help support home-grown business” Love Boo

Dexter tried the Natural Soft and Shiny Shampoo & Conditioner which are packed with the moiturising and strengthening properties of argan oil, fig and coconut. As you’d expect, they’ve banned the nasties (parabens, sulphates, TEA, petrochemicals, synthetic colours or DEA) making it a safe choice for sensitive young skin. They also smell reminiscent of Johnson’s baby lotion so leave baby smelling seriously scrummy.

The big difference to note about Love Boo, is how the products lather up. Rather than losing your baby in a sea of foam, instead it’s like rubbing lotion on baby’s head. It feels soft to apply and the dreaded shampoo-in-the-eyes is easier to control. It was easy to rinse off and we had plenty of smiles from Dexie even with over-exuberant splashing that sent the product into his eyes.

Another big thumbs up from me for the press down caps. This is the only style of cap that Dexter hasn’t managed to get into yet, meaning he can play with the bottles in the bath without diluting the product. I’ve lost count of the times I’ve gone to wash my own hair and had runny shampoo dripping out of my palms!

Dexter was also given the detangling spray to try. I’ll admit we haven’t had to use this yet as his hair is still baby soft. The spray will be coming on our upcoming holiday though to help us battle any chlorine-induced frizz.

The trio of products is available to buy as a set costing £25, or separately with the shampoo and conditioner both at £6.99, and the detangling spray at £11.99, There are also a number of gift sets available that would make a really lovely baby shower or new mummy gift. There’s Bottom Butter, Soft and Splashy Bubbles, Top-to-Toe Wash and Massage Oil for baby, aswell as some lovely treats for new mums including the Magic Balm and Bosom Buddy for treating sore boobs that are suffering from the stresses and strains of breastfeeding, and the Super Stretchy Miracle Oil to help prevent and treat stretch marks. You’re clearly paying a premium for a natural and luxury brand, but the prices are still very competitive when compared with Mama Mio, Cowshed and the Organic Children’s range from the Green People.

The press surrounding the Love Boo brand is insane. Red, Cosmopolitan, Mother & Baby, Grazia, Marie Claire… they’ve certainly been well received by the big boys. I’ll try not to make the association between Jennifer and Corinne’s former careers in the press for the fact that Love Boo has been so well received - this would be a unfair suggestion given we’ve fallen in love with the products.
