Beanbag Chairs from Ollie and Leila

The past ten years has seen a dramatic increase in independent baby & children’s boutiques. No longer are parents relying on department stores to furnish and decorate nurseries and children’s bedrooms. Thankfully this means there’s now far more choice for parents when it comes to accessorising these spaces and making them extra special for the little people who occupy them. For someone who loves small businesses & unique finds, I’m spoilt for choice when decking out the kids rooms.

Ollie and Leila fall firmly into the independent category. Having formerly sold adult furniture, a husband and wife team decided to design their own children’s range having been inspired by their children, Ollie and Leila. They simply couldn’t find anything that lived up to their expectations (both in terms of quality & design) so came up with their own unique take on children’s furniture.

“Instead of growing up, we are growing down! We have been selling ‘grown ups’ furniture for years, and now we are regressing and selling furniture for kids. We are proud to work with some of the best British Manufacturers around today who create some of our children’s furniture and personalised furniture ranges. These partnerships have made our dreams come true and turned our original ideas into a marvelous reality - combining all the practicality and quality expected by parents with the sense of fun and individuality dreamed of by children”

As well as their furniture, they’ve partnered with a few successful baby & toddler businesses and expanded into toys and soft furnishings. The result is a wonderful mix of nursery accessories from teddies to rugs, cushions to bookcases, bedding to toy boxes!

Let’s face it - I was always going to like Ollie and Leila. I love Farrow & Ball colour schemes and I’m a big fan of textured accessories that create a multi-sensory environment for little ones. There’s not one item I wouldn’t happily pop in Heidi’s or Dexter’s rooms.

Having been given an opportunity to review something from the site, I plumped for this adorable beanbag chair in rose print for Heidi. Dexter has a leather tub chair and they’ll often fight over it, so this was a perfect opportunity for Heidi to have somewhere of her own to park her little bum.

Heidi Bean Bag

The print is absolutely adorable. It perfectly complements the British cottage theme we’ve tried to create in her bedroom. She has a beautiful rose print duvet set from Minene, and Laura Ashley bunting, rug and patchwork quilt. It’s uber girly and Kidston-esque - nothing quite matches, but this is entirely deliberate and gives it a sort of hapless and cosy feel. The new addition therefore fits in beautifully.

Heidi Ollie & Leila

I’m also impressed with the design of chair which holds its shape incredibly well. The seams are easy to locate and a quick shake-and-smooth creates a super comfy spot for Heidi. They’ve popped in exactly the right amount of filling to ensure the back and arms are nice and sturdy when she’s seated, and she can lean back comfortably without it tippling backwards. At 18 months, it’s lightweight enough for her to pick up and take from room to room, however she does need mummy to “arrange” it for her before she can sit down.

It’s a versatile seat with a variety of uses. She’ll drag it across to the telly when she fancies a CBeebies marathon, yet also uses it when reading, snacking and playing with her dollies.

Beanbags

At £59.00 the price is comparable to other children’s chairs. This is perhaps slightly more than I’d usually pay for a beanbag version, but if you want something really pretty for your little madam you won’t be disappointed. There’s also a dozen other designs - all inherently “British” - and standard beanbag versions at the same price if you want even more versatility. I’m really chuffed with ours so would recommend it to anyone who wants to give their little one a super comfy treat.

Vintage-print scarves and accessories from Lylia Rose

There’s nothing quite like layering up, taking a walk in the fresh air and watching the kids race along leaf-ridden paths. This is what makes Autumn such a special time of the year. It’s also the time we rotate our wardrobes and stash away summer dresses, bringing out jumpers, skinny jeans and riding boots. Bland outfits are given the scarf treatment and further accessorised by felt hats and leather gloves.

For bright chiffon scarves I’ve recently discovered Lylia Rose. Here you’ll find a staggering amount of choice in pretty vintage designs, with flowers, birds and butterflies galore. It’s not often you stumble across someone’s shop and literally love everything - but this is definitely the case here.

Gemma Scarf

Everything you’ll see on Lylia Rose has been handpicked by mumpreneur Victoria, a Gloucester-based mum of 2. She set up the shop whilst on maternity leave with her first child and it’s gone from strength to strength having recently been awarded a Theo Paphitis small business award . A passionate vegetarian and small business advocate, she also keeps a scrapbook alongside her shop about family life, recipes and etsy finds.

The shop is full to the brim with affordable fashion accessories. I have the feeling Victoria and I have very similar styles, as there’s so much I like. I had a tough time picking something to review so asked her to send me a surprise from a list of my top picks. She chose this gorgeous turquoise scarf with bluebirds and blossom trees. It’s absolutely beautiful, long enough to be styled in a variety of ways and made from strong yet lightweight cotton. At just £9.99 it’s a real bargain.

There’s also a whole host of pretty accessories and an ever-growing jewellery and small bag collection. Still in keeping with mock-vintage theme, there’s lots of turquoise and brass, flowers and butterflies. The purses and make-up bags are also in distinctly girly prints.

Having had a good snoop around, there’s dozens of pretty bits to suit every taste and all are perfectly affordable with everything I’ve featured above all under £15. All orders also come with free first class delivery within the UK too. My scarf arrived wrapped in pretty tissue paper (not photographed as the kids got to it!) making it a perfectly pretty gift for someone special.

What’s more, every sale on the site helps raise money for Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal which fundraises exclusively for the Bristol Children’s Hospital and Special Care Baby Unit. A boutique with a conscience.

The Awesome Road To Weight Loss Success

Posted on

We all know how difficult it can be to lose weight and reach our ideal size. However, most ladies would feel a lot more confident if they shed a few pounds. Considering that, I wanted to give some tips and advice that should point you in the right direction. There are three main components to weight loss success, and you will need each of them to achieve your goal.

Motivation

You are never going to reach your weight loss goals without a whole load of motivation. That can come in many different forms, and so you just need to find something that works for you. Some people lose weight because doctors have warned of negative consequences if they don’t. Others find their motivation when thinking about their kids or looking at old photographs of themselves.

Commitment

Whatever you plan to do, you’ll need lots of commitment if you want to lose weight. Like it or not, you won’t see amazing results straight away. You’ll need to exercise consistently for at least a few months before you notice positive changes. People without enough commitment will never get the results they desire.

Determination

Determination is key when trying shed the pounds. You aren’t going to see a real difference in your size if you fail to push yourself. You need the eye of the tiger if you want to build a sweat and drop a waist size.

So long as you have those three key elements, reducing your weight should become a realistic goal. It’s so easy to put weight on eating fatty food and snacking on chocolate. However, it can take much longer to put things right. There are, however, some medical procedures that could help. Take a look at the infographic to discover the benefits.
