So this month we’ve been trialling the TalkTalk Sky Movies Boost. I’m not new to Sky Movies as I’ve been a Sky customer before, but I was intrigued to see how easy the service is to navigate on TalkTalk’s YouView box.

Let’s get all the faff out of the way first…

This boost is just £15 per month, and as with all TalkTalk’s boosts, is available with just one month commitment – so no lengthy subscription charges. You’ll opt in using your TalkTalk remote and secure pin - so providing this 4 digit number isn’t public knowledge, there’s no chance of little fingers ordering any boosts on your behalf. The on-screen instructions are incredibly easy to follow and the fees are clearly explained to minimise any confusion. This means your selected Boost will be added immediately and you can start your month’s worth of Sky Movies anytime you like. The benefits of this system are obvious - you’re not tied to a costly year-long contract so you can dip in and out at your leisure. In this climate of financial instability, this is an outright win for TalkTalk over its competitors.

So what’s the Sky Movies Boost all about?

Well you get 11 channels of all the latest films covering all your favourite genres. These being:

  • Sky Movies Premiere
  • Sky Movies Showcase
  • Sky Movies | Disney
  • Sky Movies Family
  • Sky Movies Greats
  • Sky Movies Comedy
  • Sky Movies Select
  • Sky Movies Drama & Romance
  • Sky Movies Action & Adventure
  • Sky Movies Crime & Thriller
  • Sky Movies Sci-fi & Horror

You can access what’s on via the Guide button on your remote (channels 530+) to view the films on offer at set times throughout the day, or via the TalkTalk button to access a range of films on demand. Just select TalkTalk > Sky > and scroll left or right to what’s on offer. This is great for impromptu viewing and means you’re not restricted to a timetable.

In my eyes, this makes TalkTalk slightly easier to navigate than Sky. Although Sky’s Guide function is arguably better, the sheer number of ways to access On Demand programming is much better with TalkTalk. I also love the fact the graphics on the TalkTalk home screen only take up half the screen - the other half shows trailers of what is on offer either on Box Office or via the Boosts. This is a great idea if you’re stuck for viewing inspiration.

This review has gone down a storm with my Craig as he loves to relax with a movie and beer in the evenings. But it’s also brought the boys closer as they can watch children’s movies together at the weekends. Dexter is really beginning to take notice of the television now and it’s great to see him quietly snuggled up with his daddy rather than trashing the house! This leaves mummy with some much-needed hands-free time to do some bits around the house or nap (I am pregnant after all!).

Here are some of our favourite films on Sky Movies at the moment:

This is 40 is the second time Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann have played alongside each other as man & wife. I really loved Knocked Up and this was filled with the same dry humour that never fails to make me giggle. If you’ve had CBeebies on for 4 hours straight and want to remind yourself that you’re an adult, this is the perfect tonic.

Craig rated A Good Day to Die Hard and, judging by the noise traveling up the stairs thanks to surround sound, it had the right amount of guns and bombs in it to appeal to our nation’s men.

But Sky Movies is really about the kids this Christmas with a whole of family-friendly premieres (Oz The Great and the Powerful, Wreck it Ralph), and old favourites such as Miracle on 34th Street and Arthur Christmas. Cartoons are a big hit in our house at the moment and I managed to get the above shot of Craig and Dex enjoying The Elf That Rescued Christmas. The fact that he managed to sit still for the entire duration is enough to make this review one of TalkTalk’s finest yet. Thanks guys!

We’re TalkTalk ambassadors and this review is one of many about their range of services. If you’d like to see what we thought of the Kids Boost click here to read more!
