Britain’s Best Blanket Fort

Posted on

This year I suspect hundreds of toddlers will be getting wigwams and indoor tents from Father Christmas. He sure is generous to be giving away such cool presents to our little one’s, and there’s no denying these are some seriously cool gifts! There was nothing like these when I was growing up, but now they’re decked out with bean bags, fairy lights and bunting - the perfect little hideaway when you’re in a strop with mum and dad, or want somewhere quiet to practice your reading.

When I was little, it was all about forts and dens made from blankets, sofa cushions, dining chairs and coffee tables. My mum used to turn her back for thirty seconds and despair when she caught sight of the lounge being transformed into something resembling a badly presented haberdashery. Worse still, my brother and I dragged all our toys into the chaos and insisted on eating picnic-style under mum’s expensive blankets. Inevitably things get ripped, ruined and stained.

But man it was a lot of fun!

When I spotted a blogger competition from Furniture Market a few weeks ago, I was taken back to my childhood and couldn’t wait to get involved. I knew Dexter would destroy it and pull all the blankets down as soon as he got inside but this was all part of the fun!

I can’t pretend our fort would win awards, and is never likely to feature on George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces (more’s the pity as I think he’s really cute), but it was cosy enough for Dexter. He read his book, snuggled up with his favourite teddy and defended it from mummy when she attempted to crawl in with the camera. But best of all, it was pretty good fun smashing it down, hey Dex?

If you’d like to enter Britain’s Best Blanket Fort Competition with your little one’s - you have until the 20th December to submit your entry. You don’t even need to be a blogger to take part - just summon your inner-child, build a crazy fort, get out your camera and tweet it to the guys @MarketFurniture using the hashtag #BlanketFortComp. The best entries will be considered for a top prize of £100 worth of Love2Shop vouchers which could well be (although doesn’t have to be) used to buy some new fort-worthy furniture for an even more epic fort next time!
