Beach vs Ski Family Holidays

Posted on

Craig is a real man’s man. He loves sport and his group of friends are very into cycling and skiing - my idea of hell. As I’m more of a relax-by-the-pool kind of girl, he’s always done these trips away with the boys. I must admit it’s quite nice to shove him out of the door, let him get it out of his system, and come home completely skint (so he’s in every night for the next month on babysitting duties). It’s not difficult to find cheap deals on Snowtrex so his hobbies are never hugely expensive.

Of course, he’d never forsake a family holiday with us to get away with the lads, Usually there will be a group or 10 or more of them and they’ll rent a big luxury villa. This means costs are kept down and the bulk of the holiday fund is used for our annual family holiday (aka wedding venue hunting) and a few weekends away.

I’m not sure how long he’ll be able to keep up his jet set lifestyle when we have baby two. There will be more pressures on us financially and with two (hopefully) under two - I’ll struggle to cope on my own. In time I suspect he’ll want to take the kids skiing and we’ll incorporate it into a family holiday - they can hit the slopes whilst I read a book beside a cosy log fire in a bar somewhere.

Thing is, if this seriously cute video is anything to go by, I’m not sure the slopes are the best place for tiddlers!

If you want to see if skiing could work for your family, I’d definitely recommend a dry ski slope first. Bracknell Ski Slope is a good bet if you’re in my neck of the woods as it has qualified instructors who have experience working with tots. Let’s face it, I’m not likely to be able to teach my kids anything myself!

So what do you think? Have you ever taken little humans skiing before?
