Earn cashback on back-to-school shopping with Swagbucks

Posted on

It’s time for Swagbucks’ monthly SWAGO again, and this one is super relevant for those of us currently sweating our way through the summer holidays. As if entertaining the kids for 6 long weeks wasn’t enough of a strain on your finances, getting them kitted out for school come September will only add to the headache.

School

New school shoes, trousers, lunchboxes… even stationery… it all adds up. Supermarkets and the highstreet offer a ton of promotions to help parents manage the burden, but stock goes fast and the quality vs price dilemma is all too real for lots of us. If you’re looking to get an early start on your back to school shopping, taking a look at some of the retailers listed on Swagbucks might be a good way to go.

Swagbucks is a cashback site with a difference. It’s different because it’s not all about shopping. In fact, you can earn points called SB without spending a penny - just rack them up by watching videos, downloading apps, taking advantage of free online trials, or simply searching the web. These points can then be converted into gift vouchers for your favourite shops (including M&S, Argos, Debenhams and Amazon), or even cash via Paypal.

Even better, if you check out some of Swagbucks featured shops for school-inspired bits and bobs, you could earn yourself 25 SB in a matter of minutes. How? Well Swagbucks is hosting another round of Shopping Swago. What is SWAGO you ask? It’s a bingo-inspired promotion run by Swagbucks. If you’ve never used Swagbucks, participating in SWAGO serves as a great introduction to the site and an easy way to earn a good amount of points quickly.

  • Each square on your SWAGO Board will contain an action item to complete - this month it’s all about shopping so simply head on over to the featured retailers and check out their sites!
  • Once you complete the action item in a particular square the square will change colour signifying the action item is complete
  • Once you’ve achieved a pattern the corresponding “Submit” button will light up. There are multiple patterns available for submission, however, you can only submit ONE, so make sure you complete your board before submitting for max points
  • The game ends August 10th at 7pm

Swagbucks Swag Wars team challenge

I’m thinking maybe the big boss is on holiday at Swagbucks HQ, as the promotions team are feeling extra playful this month. Looking ahead to Star Wars Day on May 4th, this month’s Swagbucks Swag Wars team challenge is pitting dark and light side against each other to determine who will bring peace to the galaxy (… and earn a whopping great rebate on their next gift card redemption).

Team

Who will win out of these cannily-named teams? … Well it depends which team manage to rack up the most points. Given the points are awarded for totally free activities on the site, such as searching the web, discovering fresh content, and watching videos, there’s no reason why your efforts alone can’t lift your team to victory. Just click here to create an account and be assigned to a team, then explore the site. The more SB you earn, the more points you contribute to your team’s total.

The Swagbucks Swag Wars team challenge kicked off this afternoon and runs through to Friday 5th May. Check back on the Swag Wars page often to see how many points you’ve personally contributed, and which team is in the lead.

Don’t worry if your team appears to be lacking in the force though, everyone who participates and contributes at least 400 points to their teams total (a super easy target) will will receive a SB bonus in the form of a SB Swag Up Rebate on their next gift card!* (… so basically you’re getting “points-back” from a cashback site - could Swagbucks actually get any better??).

So if you never tried Swagbucks before, now is a great time to join in the madness & get acquainted with all the different ways to earn SB. SB are points awarded on everyday tasks you do online like shopping, answering surveys, discovering deals, and watching videos. These SB can then be converted into gift cards for some of the UK’s most popular retailers such as Debenhams, M&S, Argos & Amazon - you can even convert your SB into cash via PayPal.

I’m just a tiny bit obsessed as I’ve earned a whopping £1800 worth of Amazon vouchers since October last year. I do this in addition to running this blog, and ferrying 2x under 5s around to school and classes. That’s the beauty of Swagbucks - it’s not a hard slog or ridiculously time-consuming, just hop onto the site when you have a little time to spare.

*Members of the 1st place team will receive a 50 SB Swag Up Rebate, members of the 2nd place team will receive a 35 SB Swag Up Rebate, members of the 3rd place team will receive a 20 SB Swag Up Rebate, members of the 4th place team will receive a 10 SB Swag Up Rebate, and members of the 5th place team will receive a 5 SB Swag Up Rebate. Your SB Swag Up Rebate will be made available on Friday, 5 May and will expire on Wednesday, 31 May at 7:59am GMT

May the Force be with you!

Eco-friendly birthday gift ideas

Posted on

Having recently been challenged to come up with an eco-friendly birthday gift for my Dad’s wife, I’ve discovered some really interesting “green” products - ranging from the bonkers, to the brilliant. As crazy as it sounds there’s an eco-friendly gift to suit everyone out there, even the fussiest of recipients, even if they’ve never before shown an interest in lowering their carbon footprint. Just look at some of these novel birthday gifts…

For the tech lover

Under pressure from green initiatives, many technology companies are finally embracing a demand for clean technology and doing some very creative things when it comes to the environment. Examples of “Clean-tech” might be solar powered battery chargers, eco-tank printers, smart energy meters and thermostats, and LED lighting. You can even find portable solar panels for generating small amounts of power that would be spot on for frequent campers or outdoorsy types. Visit Giftstolast.co.uk and get some great gift ideas.

For the design conscious

I could have picked a million different gift ideas for those with a keen eye for interior design. I’ve seen root wood vases, recycled confetti glassware, and even reinforced cardboard furniture. Yet the most bizarre thing I found was this doormat made from re purposed flip flops. These colourful and surprisingly affordable doormats are made of scrap foam rubber from sandal factories that would have otherwise ended up in a landfill. More than just a design statement, flip flop foam doormats are great for water drainage and also less of a slip hazard on wooden flooring. Pure genius right there.

For the garden-lover

Okay I’m sure you’re not short of eco-friendly ideas here - but if your birthday boy or girl is into gardening, seed packets and potted herbs are a great inexpensive yet thoughtful gift. One glance at Facebook will show you that far from being an overnight fad, clean-eating looks set to stay. If your friend has shown even the most cursory interest in this, helping them become more self-sufficient and grow their own produce is sure to hit the right mark. Even if they do not have a garden, many herb varieties can be grown indoors in either cute windowsill pots or propagators, or mini greenhouses.

For the beauty-lover

I’m particularly loving Burt’s Bees Miracle Salve. A pint-sized rescue remedy suitable for both girly girls and men alike, this super-enriched, emollient formula contains protein-rich bee pollen and emoilent beeswax to hydrate and nourish dry hair and skin. I used this regularly on both children when they were babies on patches of eczema which it blitzed away with ease. Not only this, it comes in the cutest little tin made from sustainable materials.

So there you have it - plenty of fabulous gift ideas for the eco-conscious - given I’ll need to come up with more of these for future birthdays, Christmases and anniversaries, do drop me a comment with more green gift suggestions.
