I See Me Personalised Storybooks Review

Posted on

At 21 months and 3 years, my two monsters love a good book. It’s the perfect way to wind down of an evening and score a little one-on-one time with mummy and daddy. Like any preschooler with an active imagination, they especially love books that bring their favourite characters to life - and despite the fact that Spider-Man & Iggle Piggle are firm favourites with my two, seeing themselves in a starring role blows all else out of the water.

I See Me! personalised books are award-winning, unique keepsake gifts that children and parents will want to pop into memory boxes to treasure for years to come. Beloved by celebrities such as Courtney Cox, Brooke Shields and Jennie Garth, these beautifully illustrated books are made one at a time, specifically for each child and personalised with his or her name. Better still, with leading roles up for grabs ranging from fairy-tale princesses to adventuring pirates on the high seas they’re easy to tailor to your child’s interests.

The mission of I See Me! is to increase a child’s self-esteem by creating their very own personalised book that celebrates their uniqueness. The goal is to show each child how absolutely special and he or she is, and I’m just so delighted that my choice of book perfectly encapsulates this.

At aged 3, Dexter is the perfect age for I’m a Big Boy Now. This book aims to celebrate a child’s developmental achievements by showing him or her hitting their milestones and gaining their independence.

The book shows Dexter getting dressed by himself, potty training and going to bed without a fuss - all things he is capable of doing yet sometimes doesn’t! Having a book that showcases these day to day activities in a fun and engaging way, with Dexter as the protagonist, is just a fantastic way of reinforcing positive behaviour.

This isn’t the first time I’ve received a personalised children’s book having reviewed for Penwizard before, but I found this experience much easier, and the quality of the book is incomparable. Rather than being taken through a lengthy and complicated editing suite as some DIY publishers do, you simply fill in a quick form on an order page (child’s name, hair colour, birthday, town, friend’s names or anything else that is relevant for the story you have chosen), upload a photo of your child, preview the book then order. The whole project takes less than 5 minutes to complete.

The attention to detail is exceptional. Not only is each hardback book well bound, with glossy pages and beautiful illustrations that cover the whole page, you can also add a dedication to go inside the front cover and upload a picture of your child so they can recognise themselves on the very first page.

Dexter simply loves his book and it has fast become the most requested storybook in his little collection - not that we mind, it’s a pleasure to read with parent-friendly rhyming couplets. I’m a huge advocate of reading in general, but repetition breeds recognition and when I see him pointing out familiar words it just fills my heart with pride. Dexter is a big boy now, so this book just couldn’t be any more appropriate.

Our mission is to increase self-esteem in children through personalized books that celebrate the uniqueness of each child. The goal of our books is to show each child how absolutely unique and special he or she is, to teach the child how to spell his or her name, and to build vocabulary skills. The books can also help with issues such as bed-time routines or how to help a child prepare for becoming a sibling. Maia and Allan Haag, Co-Founders of I See Me!

I See Me! also offer a range of personalised gifts such as puzzles, placemats, growth charts and lunchboxes, as well as gift ideas for all major holidays. I’m a little in love with this seriously My Snuggle Bunny book which can be personalised with your child’s name just in time for Easter. It offers your child a countdown of ten ways Snuggle Bunny loves him or her throughout the day - from a hug in the morning to snuggle time in the evening. Order the book only, or add this super plush adorable bunny that will help bring the book to life.

A US company, I See Me! personalised storybooks are available to UK customers with a turn around time of just 2 weeks and shipping of £6.50 (Dexter’s book was $29.99 before P&P). Check out over 40+ titles for babies, boy and girls aged 0-8 years at www.iseeme.com or give them a little like on social media to see more reviews, gift ideas and new releases.

Yep, the nation’s favourite iconic white bunny from the storybooks by Dick Bruna, is about to enthrall a new generation of British pre-schoolers. The new series marks the first time Miffy has been seen in CGI, and she translates beautifully. Using Dick Bruna’s distinctive palate of bright primary colours and simple shapes, combined with plenty of space around them for a child’s imagination to roam, ‘Miffy’s Adventures Big and Small’ encapsulates the essence of Bruna’s classic books whilst bringing his characters to life on screen.

The series comprises 52, seven minute long episodes which see Miffy and her friends exploring the exciting world around her. Simple narrative and fun songs ensure even the youngest children stay engaged throughout. Mum & dad are sure to get behind Miffy too as she transport them right back to their own childhood. miffy-2

Miffy’s new series will become a key part of Tiny Pop’s evening block, Cuddle Time, which features gentle programming allowing kids, mums and dads to enjoy calmer family favourites before bedtime. REVIEW: My Little World Books by Little Tiger Press - Red Car, Blue Car by Jonathan Litton

Posted on

It’s not often you come across a book for preschoolers that really lives up to its educational claims. Dexter’s comprehension is actually very good. I can ask him to perform basic tasks with no visual hints and he’s off grabbing that pot of Sudocrem or rescuing Heidi from a climbing frame. His speech however is very slow. We’ve made little progress from “Mummy”, “Daddy” and “Car”, and with an impending move to a new nursery, we’re keen to ensure he’s happy with the basics.

Colours is as good a place as any to start, and I’ve been really impressed with a new release from Little Tiger Press in the series of My Little World books. We’ve tons of books from this series and have been so impressed with the standard. Whether it’s a pop-up extravaganza, noisy book or activity book, they all boast hardbook covers for clumsy hands, and are visually engaging with bold text and bright illustrations that fill the entire page.

Red Car, Blue Car is the very latest in the collection by Jonathan Litton and illustrated by Lisa Verrall. It aims to introduce children to the world of colours with über cool pop-ups. It’s been designed specifically for little hands with extra thick pages and can withstand some fairly tough play by your little one. The best bit is that the pop-up’s flatten when the page is laid flat - this means little ones are less likely to grab and tear them.

Aimed at 3-5 year olds, the text is simple, with large font and rhyming text. I’m a massive fan of rhyming text as it makes it easy for mum and dad to inject some fun into reading, and enables small children to learn through repetition. There are also plenty of animals for your child to point out within the book adding an extra dimension of learning.

I’ve reviewed a number of books by Jonathan Litton now and love his charming and simple style. His pop-up books have been much loved by Dex over the past few months, and I love the ongoing partnerships with skilled illustrators Lisa Verrall, Fhiona Galloway & Kasia Nowowiejska. They really help bring his stories to life and offer bright and easily recognisable artwork for the children to engage with. Red Car, Blue Car is no exception and has been requested many times at storytime.

About the author: Jonathan Litton has written numerous children’s books in prose and verse. He specialises in non-fiction, early-learning and rhyming board books and loves using his science background to write about sea creatures, space and saving the planet, but is also fond of penning stories about pirates, princesses and picnics

Red Car, Blue Car (ISBN: 9781848691216) and its sister book One, Two, Baa, Moo (ISBN: 9781848691223) are available in hardback from August 2015 from Little Tiger Press. Both will be priced at a very reasonable £6.99.
