A quicky post from me to introduce the Silver Cross Pramathon 2013 that might be of interest for some of my reader’s. It promises to be a fun packed day out for a very worthwhile cause (Genesis Research Trust) and would be a lovely first fundraising activity for your tiny tots.

WHAT IS IT?
A charity 5k pram push set in the glorious and picturesque parkland of Marble Hill Park, Twickenham cheered on by some of your child’s favourite Channel 5 Milkshake! characters and presenters. The Genesis Research Trust supported by Silver Cross, will offer a vibrant family day out, raising money for a worthwhile cause. Around 1,200 babies and toddlers are expected to participate and they’ll get to meet some of their favourite tv characters from The City of Friends, Jelly Jamm, Roary the Racing Car and Peppa Pig!
HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?
When you sign up for Silver Cross Pramathon 2013 there’s a small registration fee to cover administration expenses (£50 covers 2 adults and 3 children, £35 for 1 adult and up to 3 children). THE SERIOUS BIT: THE GENESIS RESEARCH TRUST
The serious side of the Silver Cross Pramathon 2013 is to raise in excess of £300,000. Genesis Research Trust was founded in 1985 by Professor Robert Winston to initiate, encourage and provide support for vital medical research and investigation into the causes of a wide range of devastating conditions affecting women and babies. This includes stillbirth, premature birth, miscarriage and brain damage. The charity funds world-class scientists and clinicians whose primary aim is to improve the health of women and their unborn babies. This work includes studies to identify women at risk of complications in pregnancy.
Just look at these heartbreaking statistics…
- 1 in 18 babies in the UK is born prematurely. This is a rate that has barely changed since the 1930s
- 1 in 4 babies are miscarried. This rate has also remained the same since the 1930s. No matter how early in pregnancy a child is lost, the parents grief can be terrible
- 1 in 175 babies is stillborn. This rate has remained almost unchanged since 1995
- 4,370 women die of ovarian cancer each year
- 1 in 10 women suffer from Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
Our charity lies at the heart of the most profound of all human wishes: to have a happy and healthy family Professor Robert Winston
