Trends from London Fashion Week: A Marc B & ASOS Comp

Posted on

You can’t seem to escape London Fashion Week at the moment. The breakfast telly stylist’s have been raving about colour-popping, neon and monochrome - insisting they can show us how we can wear the latest trends without looking like Big Bird from Sesame Street.

Yep. Believe it or not, it is possible. Zoe Jordan, Marc Jacobs, and Jonathan Saunders all showed us a thing or two about how to make orange work for an autumnal wardrobe. And suddenly it all seems so achievable.

But a deeper investigation into this seasons catwalk trends suggests there are lots of subtle feminine overtures too.

Simone Rocha scored big with some critics with her twist on 50′s and 60′s tailoring - reinventing them for our wardrobes with shades of pale pink & cream, faux fur panelling and high-sheen patent leather - she credited her collection as being inspired by her grandmothers. I’d love to see a few piccies of Nana Rocha then - mine wears thread-bare tea dresses and support stockings!

On the same day Roksanda Ilincic treated us to a palette of pale pink, mint-green, pops of orange and deep burgundy. She went on to explain “autumn is usually always so dark and tonal. I wanted the feeling of spring but mixed with a ghostly, haunted feel”. As a continuation of this, Alice Temperley’s collection was full of ice white romance.

So why is this legging-wearing, grey-addict, baby-sick-covered mummy at all concerned with London Fashion Week?

Well - I think it’s time we pulled Mummy Mills out of her comfort zone, out of her maternity clothes, and out of the self-imposed grey / black funk she’s been modelling for the past few months. It boils down to the fact that Dex has a better wardrobe than me and it’s getting on my nerves.

Whilst researching this post and feeling royally inadequate watching the size zeros draped in clothes that are worth more than our car, I found a blogger comp that could just be the answer to my prayers. It seems the guys at e-tailPR (see the cute little blog badge on my sidebar) have teamed up with Marc B and ASOS for a blogger comp with an impressive £75 to spend at Marc B and £175 to spend at ASOS up for grabs.

This is just what I need to kick off my ‘New Me’ campaign! All I have to do is create a collage of a look featuring a New Arrival Marc B bag, and ASOS clothing. So without further ado - here are my London Fashion Week inspired daytime and night looks.

ASOS Fit And Flare Mac With Belt

All my looks would be punctuated with this gorgeous ASOS Fit and Flare Mac (let’s face it, it’s a bit chilly to go out without one this time of year) at just £55.

For my evening look - I’ve incorporated the orange from the catwalk with this ASOS A-Line Dress With Short Structured Sleeves (£35) - calming it down with Chestnut ASOS TORI Platform Shoe Boots (£30) and the gorgeous Marc B Jen bag in tan (£55).

Keeping accessories to a minimum, I add a hint of gold with this Marc by Marc Bracelet Watch. At £185 - perhaps my 9-month-old might get me this for Mother’s Day?

For a more casual day-time look I go for vibrant blue and try out this colour-popping trend. I’d team these Mih Jeans Paris Ankle Length Skinny Jeans £174 (did I mention I’d be a size 10!) with this Sugarhill Boutique Open Back Blouse in Lovebirds Print (£38) as it’s just so pretty. The bright blue would be complemented by these ASOS PIPER Pointed High Heels - a bargain at just £30. I’ve plumped for the ASOS Metallic Necklace in Rose Gold to complete the look.

For a more romantic evening look I’ve picked this amazing ASOS High Neck Cold Shoulder Top in pristine white (£20). I’d accent this with some ASOS CURVE Ridley Super Soft Skinny Jeans in black (£28) and add a Made Kigonye Statement Cuff for £25. The ‘pop’ would come from these to-die-for Coral New Look Stefano Cut Out Platform Shoes for a miniscule £19.99.

So what do you think? Could I pull these catwalk inspired looks off?
